yes, this thing is similar. Do yours only appear from TWTD? Mine doesn't appear from any other web site.

We discussed it a few times. Apologies it's still happening after I've reported it.

This does suggest you need to get some/upgrade your malware protection.

While that's probably an exaggeration, it is a bit annoying

I suspect its a advert the Microsoft Edge doesn't seem to like? been happening for 2 or 3 days now, at random times..

Anything you suggest? I have ageing Windows 10 & my son told me that their protection was probably sufficient these days.

Sites plastered in ads from networks that can’t be trusted not to spread malware are a cancer on the internet and largely a thing of the past. If a website offers value to people’s lives then charge a small fee. If not, offer it for free and call it what it is…a hobby.

All advertising on the net works in the same way these days. Each ad impression goes through a bidding process at high speeds. Unfortunately rogue ads do get through and that's what's happening here.

We do offer an ad-free version of the site for just £2 a month however when people get informed of this they would prefer to keep the free version which is their choice.

Offering the site for free? It costs 5 figures a year to run. 5m page impressions a month doesn't come cheap.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of the site and appreciate the time and effort that you and Phil put in. But the internet is moving on from ads and they seem to be a constant source of pain for you and many users. If it’s gotten to the point that you have to warn people to make sure they have sufficient malware protection because even you can’t trust the ads then I feel for you to some extent.

A couple of points:

1. I don’t see the ad free account option mentioned anywhere other than your post. Not many will see this. If you advertised it more prominently with a way to sign up I think you’d get quite a few takers. Most users are fanatics and love the site.
2. Appreciated that this site is probably your side hustle but have you considered upgrading your tech? 5 million page impressions per month is a great achievement but pretty small fry in the grand scheme of things. It looks like you’re running PHP, maybe some old bb library that’s been hacked about? Modern languages and web frameworks are more efficient nowadays and you should be able to serve that many requests with a couple of cheap VMs behind LB. Add in a database and you shouldn’t really be looking at much more that $20-30 per month.

Thanks for everything you do. I haven’t actually seen ads on the site for months after you fixed one of the malicious ones but let me know how and I’ll happily subscribe and support the site.

I've written every line myself and I'm working on the next version. Our server costs are acceptable but our largest cost by far is photos.

To those offering to go adfree, we can only take PayPal at present. £2 a month is only available if you pay for 12 or 6 months due to the fees. Send your payment to paypal@twtd.co.uk or DM me for our bank details if you want to do a bank transfer.

My thanks always to those who support us in this way.

There’s now an ad blocking you from checking your prediction in the prediction league section after you submit it. It greys the page out.

And I’m an ad-free subscriber!

My malware/antivirus is up to date and I still get this. It scans at least daily, often I prompt it to run during the day as well as its scheduled overnight scan.

It seems to go through spells of not occurring but for the last weeks, it's happened more often. Probably 10 times this week I would say across mobile and PC.

Not when you quote half the paragraph without the rest of the context it doesn’t! The point being that if you don’t feel that the site adds value to people’s lives then it is simply a hobby. If you think it does, which it’s pretty clear I do from the rest of my post, you ought to ask people to pay for it rather than infecting them with malware.
