That’s not quite right I’m afraid. If he was worth more than the clause and someone offered the clause then we’d have to accept. We are perfectly within our rights to accept a lower amount and given that he’s worth considerably less than the clause amount we are very unlikely to achieve it.
You’ll say “haha but then we won’t sell!”, but we will. Because there’s little point holding on to a player that wants to leave if you can get a reasonable fee. With a decent U21 Euros and a decent PL season in 25/26 he has an outside shot at a WC squad place, we won’t hold him back and neither should we. |
