Ben Johnson and Harry Clarke - enough for the right hand side? 17:33 - Jun 26 with 5432 viewscbower

Maybe not last season but this is the Championship. If absolutely necessary, O'Shea can play there too. I could see no replacement for Axel in the hope we have enough there and more money being spent on central midfield and centre forward. Any thoughts?

I think Johnson has something about him. Had some good performances last season among some dodgy ones but seemed to improve.

I'm out on Harry Clarke if I'm honest. I just do not rate him at all and he hasn't played that much football over the last year or so. Even when he played for Sheffield United he was far from convincing, had a couple of games where he was getting clearly targeted.

I would imagine we will sign someone for that position.

I still like Harry Clarke and think he'll mature and continue to improve.

His numbers actually stack up well for the time he was on the pitch, obviously just a shame about his injuries.

Sort of player you know will always give a little bit more on the pitch with the connection.

Fair enough, and I definitely feel like I'm in the minority on Clarke, I just don't see it.

Whenever I watched him for us I felt nervous when the ball was coming down his side, I think he is a bit rash. He is certainly better going forward but even then I think he is decent without being spectacular. I felt/feel that guys like Williams/Axel and even Johnson are just so far ahead of him.

We would be missing an opportunity here if we didn’t replace Axel. Both Johnson and Clarke are very adequate players at championship level but there are many questions over their level above this one given the huge gulf in quality above the championship. No shame there. I’d be shocked if we didn’t signed a strong, athletic quick young right back to fill the void of Axel.

I'm inclined to agree. Yes a broken clock is right twice a day and all that but his performance away at Forest in the FA cup is one that I think back to, he was superb that night against very dangerous opposition. Leicester at home is another one, played very well that day.

He's a bit like Muric (although probably to a lesser degree than Muric) in that I feel he's either backed and given the role to make his own, or he's moved on. Feels like one of those we can't really be 'half pregnant' on. Well, we can I guess, he could be a perennial versatile fringe player but relative to his rumoured cost that's not a good use of resources. We can't afford him to 'do a Townsend role' on the sort of dough he's on.

I agree. Happy with Johnson at RB and Clarke as back up.
