I have their set on now; was intrigued by all the chat on here.
Seems fairly inoffensive pop for middle-aged women and their daughters, who have lots of cushions and things that say 'Live, Love, Laugh' on them. They seem to be happy though. Not sure why anyone could raise any hatred for the band. He has a decent voice.
I thought it was quite funny when they went into a 'rocky' one and he went a bit screamy. That was probably the best one.
I agree with others saying he seems to be a bad actor playing a rock star. The worst bit for me, given the age of a lot of their audience, was him regularly smoking onstage. That's more damaging than anything Bob Vylan said.

I used the word hate, albeit it's meant slightly tongue in cheek.
2 specific things that have inspired such feelings though.
1) way back in the distant past I saw them on the lake stage (new bands stage) at latitude. I knew nothing about them, but the programme bio made them sound great, all talk of the return of guitar music etc. They cam on stage, all in black leather jackets etc, loads of dry ice, and I'm thinking it looks promising. Then they start to play. Talk about false advertising! Our group were, as one, appalled by the whole thing. I haven't trusted a festival band bio since that day.
2) 1975 is my year of birth, and they have sullied it with their bland emo pop rock. How dare they.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

For me they are very much style over substance. Cool name, look the part, carrying actual instrument, rumors of some gard rock n roll living...... then they play chocolate and you think wtf.
Feels like the record company have just styled them withing an inch of their lives. Not my cup of tea at all.
Having said all that i think thats the beauty of Glastonbury and their popularity probably warrants a headline slot.
It's almost as if the singer has modelled himself on a younger Pete Doherty or something, trying so hard to be/look cool and comes across as contrived and fake.
Funnily enough the agent for The 1975 also reps The Libertines and Peter. It's all a big game for the tastemakers.

Glad Rommers enjoyed it
This is The 1975, they have been churning this out for 16 years!

Funnily enough, Chocolate was the song that drew that reaction from us.
But music is subjective, I like stuff that others would think is dreadful!
