Been at training ground this week.

Tbf though he could just be assessing his options as if he’s available, I’m sure all of the top championship clubs will be in for him.

Actually, no.

It was open for 10 days before the CWC and reopened on the 16th June.

We are one of only 4 Championship clubs that haven’t made a signing. Of the other 3, one doesn’t have a manager and one barely has an owner.

Many clubs have made multiple signings, some up to 6. Hull have signed more players than us and they are under a transfer embargo.

Obviously we are in a reasonable position in terms of the squad, but there are very obvious areas that need addressing, CF and CM notably. The players are back training and the season starts in 5 weeks.

We do need to get a move on really.

Out of curiosity, are many of those signings the quality we will be aiming for? I don’t pay attention to much outside of ITFC.

I would imagine it is easy to sign players whose ceilings will be mid-Championship. But we are aiming higher than that, top championship players or players that may be able to grow into PL players are much less in quantity and much more complex in dealing with.

It could make a big difference when making comparisons with the rest of the division.

There was a very small window ahead of the CWC and then it reopened 3 days ago.

So… yes.

Oh dear Wally.

No idea really.

Although plenty of Premier League clubs have managed to sign top level players already. So are people saying that we are a total outlier, stuck between signing top level players and mid level players? Are we in a group of just us that are trying to sign a very specific type of player which makes deals very difficult to do?

Seems unlikely!

I was really just pointing out that the window has been open longer than people on here think.

Signings (or lack of them so far) by Cheltenham_Blue 3 Jul 9:21
Lots of the Premier League teams will hold off a while longer to decide who can go on loan and who can be sold, once that starts happening things will speed up.

That being said, I think we are being really ambitious in our transfer dealings, that takes time to negotiate and is difficult to convince them to drop down a league.

It's not impossible that we have deals done, but they can't be announced until the Club World Cup wraps up. Easy to forget that Johnson and Omari were both done before the 30th June as Johnson was a free, and at the time Chelsea needed to sell before the end of June to avoid any PSR issues.

Would imagine the first movement in to come during the next couple of weeks.

Exactly the point Stuart Watson is making.
Basically ITFC are looking at a much higher level then current transfers done
Patience required

Quality over quantity- I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up selling before we purchase- not because there’s a financial need to but because some areas of the squad are just as over stocked as others are under.

What's his contract situation? Seems odd Saints would let me move to a rival?

Certainly better than what we have now but is he good enough for the PL?

Maybe he has a relegation release clause as well?

He was the only player to get the better of Morsy that season IMO.

He spent a bit too long keeping Morsy on the ground. He has a streak and I’m not comfortable. I know we need more physicality but we need it alongside self control.

53 yellow cards and 2 reds in over 220 games.

I haven’t checked Morsy’s record but I bet the average is just as bad for yellows, certainly worse for reds.

Sorry to kill the vibe but I don't believe this is as close as this might suggest - or certainly that twitter is suggesting

It doesn't seem unlikely at all. I'm fact it's likely.

We are NOT in the Prem. So it's harder for us to sign Prem capable players then those in the Prem. As has been stated we are in the more tricky market of wanting Prem capable or orem potential players only. Players that will elevate us in what is already a very good championship squad.

Leicester and Southampton have made 1 signing between them. Similar.

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?

Flynn Downes on 09:40 - Jul 4 with 1752 viewsOldFart71

Perhaps this is the new way they are going about signings. MA alluded to the fact that they want stronger running more robust players. With a midfield currently consisting of Morsy who won't play three games a week, Taylor who will be a fringe player unless he completely turns his Town career around and Humphries who may be given a chance, but is he good enough ? That's a question and not an observation.
So at least two midfielders, a forward to replace Delap, possibly another Centreback and a fullback.
With four keepers we probably need to shift one of them as well.

We need Phil to confirm theres something in this.

Not heard anything to suggest anything is happening and was told previously that it might be a difficult deal to do. But I know Kieran's a fan, they were interested in January and he was definitely keen on a return then - although there's obviously been a change of management at Saints since then - so I wouldn't entirely rule it out at this relatively early stage.

We certainly have to move some on to make room in the squad, which is currently already 25. Doesn't have to be before we buy of course, but we will have to shift some out on loan or permanently to make room in the squad.

I agree!

Always think the criticism of how he left being very harsh as I do think there was a lot more that went on behind the scenes that what we know.

Plus that was the summer of Paul Cook: Demolition Man (planned even before Evans' departure). There was a lot of squad upheaval, boosted by the advent of Gamechanger money arrived and babies may have gone along with the bathwater.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Ah yes apologies, 16th June (always used to be July 1st).

So been open two weeks.

Still no panic, we have over a month until the season starts (plus we made dozens of signings last summer, see how that turned out!!)

RIP Sir Bobby

Excellent article as ever from Mr Watson

Couldn't access that link, but in any case was naturally more drawn towards the article headed "Man falling through skylight 'should not have happened', says expert".
