Not from any reports that Phil gave credence to...
Just had a look back and seemed to pass me by completely last summer or perhaps there was too much going on when that was reported, which it was. May have dismissed it as part of the large amount of noise.
As someone mentioned Swiss Toni the other day I can't help but think of another Fast Show sketch today. The one where a wife sends her husband shopping to get 3 specific things and he always comes back with 3 different things.
Wife: "Now did you get the things I asked for ? A central midfielder, another central midfielder and another striker ?" Husband: "Even better than that dear! I got us a veteran keeper, a backup central defender on loan and another number 10!"
Can’t disagree with this the bloke isn’t anywhere near Premier League quality so seems an odd deal.
£4m isn't premier league money either to be fair. You tend to get what you pay for.
If we go up I don't think we'll be too concerned that we're obliged to sign him at that point, we'll have seen him for 12 months and can decide if he remains a part of the squad or we loan him out or sell him on. If we don't its a moot point. I can see why we would de-risk signings like this.

We are also not a Premier League team which has seemed to pass some by. Infact i'd suggest you would not be able to sign 'premier league' quality to be a back up in the Champ.
Kipre would be as good a backup as we could possibly get in this division imo

Yes that's a very fair point. There's a balance to be had between signing players who might grow with us at PL level and remembering we need a squad to actually get us there, otherwise its a problem we won't be facing in to.
Signing a proven Championship player in the prime of their career, on loan, in an area where we've lost 2 strong and reliable players, with what would be a relatively small obligation in the context of what would be a premier league club isn't a bad deal if it happens.
You've downvoted Libero's positive post and gone for the usual rubbish as if we can only work on one deal at a time.
Must be very hard to look for negatives when there are so many positives.
We don’t appear to have worked very hard on any deals, hence we have no one in to fill the spots in the team that are most needed. All this garb about being able to start early by MA and KM doesn’t seem to have gotten us anywhere. Other clubs are recruiting. We are standing still. We are never getting PL ready players so we have to just get the best we can. This guy is fine, but not exactly a position that is desperate. Wait all summer to see what scraps we can get from PL teams when they are ready and we may just miss the boat completely.

Can't pretend to know much about him. But if it's back up and competition to our current players it's not a bad thing. His size could also be very handy in training for the likes if clarke and philogene to go up against.
Very uninspiring. We need two decent midfielders and where the hell is that striker Ashton ?
These comments are always a bit daft. We'll be working on multiple deals but it's not always going to work out that our highest priority areas are where we make our first signings. It's always going to be easier to sign a squad player as well than it is to bring in the kind of calibre we need in midfield and up top.

Got to be the right players hasn't it? If we lowered our sights we could get deals done tomorrow but then people would complain about the quality of signings. Just trust the process. It's a long season. The right player for 40 games is better than getting in a lower quality player and having them here right now.

A solid championship defender though, a trade up in backup players?
I'd have prefered Burgess to stay and since we offered him a contract we probably did too.
Kipre would be the next best thing though, he can cover both left and right of central defence. For me, if this link is even real this is a shrewd bit of work with minimal risk.
So who's place is he going to take in the team ? I can only see him as being back up if we have injuries and when we get promoted ( fingers crossed ) he will be surplus to requirements and we have to pay up, but handy for cup games I guess.
