What stood out here is ''he can take the ball from defenders and quickly pick out forwards''.

That is EXACTLY what McKenna and Ipswich need, with the likes of Clarke, Hutchinson, Philogene et al ahead of him.

Yep, it will hopefully help stopping the need for forwards to drop so deep, then have to run from the halfway line only to run into a blind alley and then lose the ball.

Yep, the sort of player where a lot of our play will go through him. Greaves & O'Shea cementing their partnership at the back, Matusiwa the enforcer and legs in the middle taking the ball from them on the half turn and getting his head up to find any 1 of Omari, Clarke, Chaplin, Szmodics, Philogene, Broady, Burns...Davis bombing down the left.

Delicious.

Wonder who will partner him? Feels to me like a player who might finally make Morsy droppable, a natural baton pass there in the last year of his deal as he brings his guile off the bench and sets the standards behind the scenes. Not sure they're made to partner each other though.

There's 5 mins of him doing exactly that. Ruthlessly efficient.

I am absolutely buzzing about this signing. What a coup.

In answer to your question, Cajuste. Give it 10 days or so

They played together at Reims so that might make the move that little more attractive for Jens. Maybe confirmation of this deal is what he's been waiting for.

He's not "in the door" at the minute, so don't make a mess of your pants just yet!

Interestingly, he played alongside Cajuste at Reims. Wonder if that story isn't yet finished?

I thought Luongo in League One and the Championship did that job brilliantly. Won a huge amount of duels and interceptions, before distributing the ball immediately without ego.

Matusiwa finished 3rd in Ligue 1 for duels won last season !

Wow he looks superb. That is some player. 2 footed and he can even take on a player as well as good in the tackle. Yes please. Does that improve our chances of getting Cajuste too?

Oh Matusiwa is definitely the Morsy replacement. You'd play one or the other. I can't imagine we're paying £10m for Azor to sit on the bench.

Cajuste played alongside Matusiwa in midfield for Reims... could that be a carrot dangled?

Just had the same thought. Matusiwa and Cajuste linking back up for us would be delicious.

Start to look at a spine of Greaves, O'Shea, Matusiwa, Cajuste, Hutchinson (hopefully), Philogene, Clarke, Hirst. How much better is that than 2 years ago?

Not to mention Leif and the other attacking options we've got.

Need a #9 perm then probably a case of filling some holes with loanees (including another #9).

Totally agree, but we didn't sign Phillips to sit on the bench either to be fair. To Morsy's credit he's made himself pretty much undroppable since he arrived, and I wouldn't think he'll consider himself finished yet. Its a very good problem to have though and hopefully finally we do have that upgrade.

Very good point.

Carlos Baleba as well, one of the best players I saw last season I think is 5'9 give or take.

That is surprising. Felt like a 6ft2 in presence seeing him in person.

Another CM and a physical striker who can lead the line and bring others into play will do us nicely.

I think we'll also be very active in the loan market. Favourites...McKenna's reputation...the sucess story of Delap and Hutchinson, we'll be first port of call for the best talent coming out of the Prem.

None of our forwards were having to do this in the Championship. Why are so many failing to adjust to the fact we're in a different league! Lol

We'll still be pushing for a Hackney, Downes, Morton, Cajuste type to play alongside him - don't see anyway we don't have 2 players signed for 8 figures (or best part ) of in CM this season

Cajuste and Matusiwa would be a dreamy partnership. Matusiwa would have been in Jens ear to ask about the club/area/squad/McKenna I am sure. Why not come and join him here? Come on Jens, you know it makes sense.

Because we're aiming for a return to the Premier League, and building for that now will stand us in good stead.
