Come on Phil, you are taking your time dismissing the Morsy to Derby link on 12:12 - Jul 13 by Chris_ITFC | But they weren't fit, were they? Being able to play week-in, week-out, and sustaining more than 60 minutes a game, that's even MORE important in the Championship. I'm obviously not suggesting "just because" he's good behind the scenes. It never fails to baffle me how short people's memories are. Have you forgotten the last time we were in the Championship? |
Exactly this. There was and has been so much of the ' if my aunty had bollox she'd be my uncle' about Phillips. Fact is,he was an expensive failure and thankfully we had Morsy already here.

Come on Phil, you are taking your time dismissing the Morsy to Derby link on 12:00 - Jul 13 by BarcaBlue | Ahhhh...loanees returning to their parent clubs and others leaving who are out of contract, so that just leaves Delap. Not really an exodus, is it? You forgot Enciso, by the way. That makes 7 (seven). |
Regardless of their contract status, they were ITFC players last season and losing them along with the others changes the team dynamic. If they didn’t have an impact then they wouldn’t have been here. We were a stronger team with them. When you add them to the other players left/leaving it’s an entire squad we are rebuilding.

Come on Phil, you are taking your time dismissing the Morsy to Derby link on 11:38 - Jul 13 by Chris_ITFC | He’s our captain because of WHO he is as a person, not because of his football ability. A guy like Sam Morsy doesn’t kick up a fuss or cause problems. If he’s here, he starts versus Birmingham, no matter who we sign. After that, it’s his to lose, or up to the signings to win it. Same as last season. Ask Kalvin Phillips how hard he is to displace. [Post edited 13 Jul 11:51]

He's nearly 34, he can't play a full championship Saturday/Tuesday season. If he does stay it would be cover and late sub. Again, him being an influential player for a few years makes this tough and not straight forward. [Post edited 13 Jul 12:58]

The loanees weren't ITFC players, the clue is in the name. Those who finished contracts were ITFC players til June 30th or whenever. An exodus suggests players running for the exit and that's clearly not the case. Of the six (seven), 5 ( or 6) of them were due to leave.

Hard to really debate with something so nonsensical. So he either plays a "full" season or he's "cover and late sub". Are they the only possible options? And what's life like as Ipswich Town's fitness coach? I assume that's why you're so certain.

Perhaps his refusal to wear the rainbow armband and social media presence has also been a factor in any decision making though. The owners may feel that the captain should fully represent the inclusive community ethos / image that the club has tried hard to create. Huge player to replace and I’m sure he’d do another good job in the Championship but he’ll be 34 soon and the midfield needs an upgrade. We seem to have been mindful of not hanging onto players for too long in the latter stage of their careers. He also strikes me as the sort of guy who’d rather be a key figure somewhere and not satisfied with driving the standards in the background. He probably feels that now’s the time to get a longer contract, rather than wait until next summer. For all of those reasons, I’ve been half expecting this for a while.

Yeah, the armband thing left a really sour taste in my mouth, and with a lot of other town fans I know too, plus his social media activity isn’t great. In my opinion of course - I know others disagree. Appreciate for others they can separate that from the player, but I haven’t quite felt the same about him since. Still, I completely recognise how fantastic he has been for us, and I do wish him well when he does eventually leave - but he doesn’t capture the behaviours of a captain and player that would put him in the legend category for me. Supporting Ipswich is more to me than just results - it’s about connecting with the players and make-up of the club in a community way. [Post edited 13 Jul 13:29]

He is not a part of our future. When he decides to move on then we need to say "Thanks for everything, Sam, and good luck." |
Hardly the sort of send off he'd deserve though is it. [Post edited 13 Jul 15:11]

I said nothing of the sort. If there is an exodus of people from a place, a lot of people leave that place at the same time. That’s the dictionary reference of exodus. I don’t think you deny that a lot of players have left ITFC. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. We need a bit of a rebuild. No need to wet the bed.

Come on Phil, you are taking your time dismissing the Morsy to Derby link on 14:07 - Jul 13 with 1274 views | burnbudgiesburn | Interesting developement. Maybe he can see the writing on the wall and his game time diminishing this season and he wants regular football. I think we would need 3 signings in this area now instead of 2
Come on Phil, you are taking your time dismissing the Morsy to Derby link on 14:20 - Jul 13 with 1200 views | StokieBlue | I wonder if this has been on the cards for a few weeks. Perhaps McKenna discussed the situation with Morsy with regards to building for the PL next season where he would be 35 and that he might not get much playing time. Would also perhaps make sense that McKenna discussed with O'Shea that there could be scope for the captaincy this season and that may have influenced his decision to sign a new contract. SB

Come on Phil, you are taking your time dismissing the Morsy to Derby link on 14:32 - Jul 13 with 1126 views | OldFart71 | Just one a those thangs I'm afraid. With O'Shea more or less saying he wants the captains armband it's all part of the new drive towards the Premier League. Getting rid of or moving on the dead wood. Would not surprise me to see taylor go also and there are hints that Muric may be moved on. Anyone that is deemed to be too old and not mobile enough will be gone. It's all part of the process and we have to accept it. From Morsy's point of view a two or three year contract is great as he won't get that at Town when his contract is up. Seems we are fishing in a different pond now. I hope it works out.
Come on Phil, you are taking your time dismissing the Morsy to Derby link on 14:42 - Jul 13 with 1087 views | Westcountryblue | Too much change in this position is going to be really disruptive. We'd do well to keep Morsy during the transitional period of changing our central midfield. Bedding in 3 new players is going to be incredibly difficult and we need some form of continuity if we want to have a strong season. 25 appearances from Morsy would be money well spent. Or, offering him a new 2 year deal. I think he is totally worth it.

If he wants to take the captaincy from the current one then I suspect he is not the kind of guy to actually be our captain.
