Cobbold Stand 18:58 - Jul 13 with 4371 viewsdingus

Sat in the Cobbold stand for the first time in about 30 years for the Sheeran gig. I didn't realise quite how much it is showing its age. Tiny seats. A maze behind the stand that's really difficult to get about when more than a few people are on the move. Women's toilets barely functional. No water in any hand baisin tap.

As a town fan it was a bit embarrassing listening to new comers to the stadium talk about their experience. Hope its replacement gets bumped up the list.

Well surely they would have realised it was a football stadium an old one at that?

I raise you the away stand at Crystal Palace now that’s a bit ropey.

As for paying £260 to watch Ed blimey.

The asbestos removal isn't going to be quick, simple or cheap...

Crikey, how would they do that, literally redoing the whole top tier with a new roof?

Not that complicated as a piece of engineering, and can largely be done without impacting the existing seats, so most construction could happen in a season.

A rear extension to the stand which adds a new teir or expands the current one would also bring other benefits:

- a new roof which allows more light towards the playing space (helping the griundsman and reducing those awful shadows)
- creating a lot a buildup for better corporate or conference facilities as well as a wholesale improvement of the general stand food and beverage offer, toilets etc
- and a far improved experience where the stand meets the ground, which at the moment is pretty poor and does not make for a great visitor experience with ticket entry points at the stand.
- because of that, the could improve the old training ground into a fan zone and pre-match area more successfully without the weird situation of needing to leave then go back in to the stand and all that herras fencing. The whole area could be properly landscaped to suit the pre match experience (or private hire events) to work with the entrances and facilities of the expanded stand.

Architecturally and logistically it makes a lot of sense to increase the west strand first, relocate the Cobbold fans then completely rebuild it while keeping capacity approximately the same as today before adding another 8-12k.
