Huge position of strength on Omari ... 09:46 - Jul 16 with 2816 viewsBellevue_Blue

Now that the clause has expired it's time for Ashton to dig in and get that price up!

Feels like we can get this certainly upwards of 40/45M, especially with them expecting a windfall.

... there is no longer a minimum threshold. If clubs come in with lower offers and Hutchinson is really determined to go (back to the Prem), we may lose out.

Not saying this is a likely scenario, but the risk is there. Must be borne in mind before people become too excited.

Technically this is no different to before the release clause expired. With the release clause in place, we had to allow him to talk to anyone that triggered the release clause.

However, there was still nothing stopping someone putting in a lower offer, and us accepting it - we just had final say as to whether or not we allowed him to speak to the club making the offer if it was below the release tigger conditions. Even in that situation, if Hutch had been determined to leave, we may well have lost him.

We are now in that same situation as we would have been if an offer had been received that didn't tigger the release, but for offers of any value received - we have to give permission for Hutch to speak to the offering club, which we will presumably only do if the offer meets our valuation and terms of payment.

I think we accept £35m, but on better payment terms.

I imagine, Brentford will come back in with something that spreads the risk slightly better for them but leaves us getting more money in the long-run.

Clubs like structuring fees with appearance, goal, outcome bonuses and sell-on percentages because you only pay them if the move at least partially works out. £35m up front leaves you exposed if things go wrong.

Who said anything about having more to offer than Brentford?? I do think it's a huge position of strength and it's nothing to do with playing Football.

We have a player of interest to a Premier League side (and apparently others) and not only does that player have 4 more years to run on a lucrative contract but the club now has total control of the entire negotiation.

That to me is a huge position of strength that we didn't have with Delap and didn't have with Omari until today.

Hopefully the club can get a few others involved and get a really great deal for the club.

Maybe my response was based on what I read this on other threads, but it’s certainly a narrative that exists amongst some town fans.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, I think it offers us more protection and gives us, like you say, more control over the negotiations. Player power does exist, though. Do we want to keep a player who is not happy to be here for the sake of £5m? I think that will impact our negotiations. I do hope we can get a good deal for the club, but I will be gutted to see him go! I do think it would be akin to having Gio all those years ago, if we were to keep him.

Even if he might be keen.... he still signed a contract that has 4 years to ru so we should be in no hurry to be mugged off!

If only football worked that way and contracts were meaningful.

Players hold all the power, and unsettled players are the last thing we need.
