Depends how keen though. I am sure he would be open to the move but we know the relationship/bond he has with McKenna and I don't think he is someone that downs tools. I think we are negotiating from a real position of strength personally (including financially) and any deal will have to be completely on our terms with no wiggle room. I love that we have set our stall out and stuck to our guns.

The swagger Ashton must’ve had rejecting that on a technicality.

Bet he waited till 16:59 to send the Reject fax back.

Just don’t know why in the current climate you’d go to Brentford.

Swapping McKenna for Andrews. Not for me.Big season for Brentford and won’t be a surprise to see them struggle.

Stay here another season, even half, and could have his pick of the top clubs.

One word - Prem.

Plus he may have the chance to be the outstanding player in an underperforming team and thus get an even better move in January or next summer.

Won't do his England ambitions any harm, either.

Or he could end up injured and lose his chance. He gets another year of Prem exposure at Brentford, and if he starts showing more of the form he's showed recently in the U21s, he a step closer to the England team and a move to a bigger club.

Premier League… but hopefully helps us convince him. Manager, captain, likely 1 and maybe 2 of their top scorers all leaving.

New contract essential though - Brentford have proved he’s worth £35m now, and if he lights up the Championship, that might seem even better value for clubs next summer.

Don’t forget, he’s probably just had a 30-50% pay cut too.

I think you're seeing this through very blue-tinted specs

He'll be 22 in Oct, and still playing championship football.

Brentford will be offering premier league wages, the opportunity to play week-in week-out n the 'best league in the world', a greater chance of an England call up, greater exposure to get a move to a bigger club etc

Regardless of how appealing it is playing for McKenna, the only thing we're really offering is the potential for a quick return to the league he was playing in last season

Fabio Carvalho thought he would be playing week in, week out as well last season I reckon.

Depends as well if his wages were halved (or whatever it was) on our relegation.

Brentford would obviously pay PL wages, but a club going through a lot of upheaval and we could pass him on the way back up.

Sadly for us, you can't base your career on a future 'what if' in January or whenever.

He could get injured tomorrow and never be the same again and the chance has gone etc.

If we get an acceptable offer, he will go. It's the model Ashton has always said we will operate and how we will have to comply with PSR. Buy potential, improve it and sell at the right time for the club.

In which case, we re-sign him for whatever discount our sell-on clause is!

Totally agree.

May be essential depending on the release clause terms. I wonder if it kicks back in at the start of every window (i.e. it expired due to proximity to the season), or it goes up next window, or doesn’t exist in any form at all now.

And Summerville...

I actually think Sitters is right. Normally I'd struggle to find genuine reasons for why somebody would want to stay with us in the Champ vs. a PL move.

However, Andrews is a total unknown quantity and there's a real risk he's gone by Autumn if they're not off to a good start. Add to that two of their best players have gone already and a third likely. You'd have to think in those conditions he might find it hard (er) to shine and get the exposure he wants. I can't see a huge upside for him personally here aside from the money.

Arguably he's better off starting the season here under KM in (hopefully) a winning side and seeing if Forest, Fulham or similar come for him in Jan.

It basically will come down to money, and if we can tempt him with an offer. He’ll expect to be a top earner now, given his ability versus the squad.

That’s also quite a pessimistic view.

He’s a guy who believes in himself MASSIVELY. The optimistic view is he could be at the World Cup next summer with a good Premier League season.

Not sure it's pessimistic, more objectively setting out the facts.

I'm certain the others mentioned (Summerville and Carvalho) also MASSIVELY believed in themselves too.

And, as much as I rate Omari, and I really do, wildly optimistic to think he'd be in the running for the WC with one good season in the PL when Bowen and Madueke can't even get a few mins here or there.

Let alone he needs to get past Saka, Palmer and Foden who also play his position.
