London Standard say we're holding out for £40m 11:50 - Jul 16 with 5756 viewsportmanking

As another poster said, Rutter to Brighton set a decent benchmark. I'd put Omari in a similar bracket to him in terms of talent/potential.

Sorry to be an arsehole, but I'm a bit surprised how much your fella seems to be worth. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he only scored a couple innit?

14 goals for ITFC in his two years here (so far).

If he goes to a team in the bottom half of the Premiership which I'm pretty sure Brentford will be now then I think he will have a similar 'mixed' season like he did with us last season and he'll level off in value. In the long term he's best off with us to prove he can be a consistent goalscorer & assister over a season but if he wants to go now £40M should get us another central midfielder & striker.

I think he was one of 3 stand out performers in a tough season, and his stats for keeping and running with the ball and delivering a telling pass are up with the best in Europe. He presses well, has good stamina and is tactically smart.

He also had a good U21 Euros, I thought.

Bargain at £35-40m IMO.

Very true. When you are the most creative player in a weak side, you never get any space, as all the defenders are focused on you.

When you are a creative player in a side who have threats all over the place it is just much easier.

He’s young, English and highly talented. He’s definitely PL quality. £40m seems quite reasonable to me. But I’d much rather he stayed for another year

Agree, £40m feels about right and suspect that's where we end up.

He's 21 and played a decent amount of football in a very difficult position/role. People downplay the part he played in getting us up too - his goals against Hull stand out, but his performances from February onwards were generally very high.

He then excelled in our best games last year, e.g. Spurs, Man Utd, Chelsea at home, Villa to name a few.

I had heard Leeds were ready to pay £35m way back, but he wants to stay down south, and didn't want to be in the same boat next season as he was this.

Interesting bit of background detail in the Standard article which I had not heard before:

"Hutchinson turned down initial interest from Leeds United and Sunderland as he is wary of being involved in another relegation battle next season. But he doesn’t believe that will be an issue at Brentford."

I think it depends what sort of Leeds shows up next season. Can't imagine Burnley or Sunderland doing much better than we did, so Brentford would have to really fall of a cliff to be in the mix.

If Sargent is worth £20M despite being crap, then Omari is comfortably worth twice that.

It was fairly noticeable how in the second half of the season opposition teams quickly surrounded him whenever he got possession. In a higher quality team he would get more space than he did last season.

Yup this is a good point Premier teams doubled up on him and Man U had a player sent off for trying to nobble him , plus of course his recent performances for England u21's .

£40m is right at the top end for him. I don't want him to go really but that would be hard to turn down, we could do some serious business with that kind of money.

From memory during that period from February onwards his stats were comfortably better than Summerville for instance, who ended up with all the accolades at the end of the season
