Slicker - clearly needs a loan
Taylor - has he done enough the last 2 years?
Al-Hamadi - probably time to move on.
Johnson - has been linked with a move elsewhere
Walton - will he want another year as a number 2?
Humphreys - can't see him getting enough game time this season
Broadhead - was almost out the door last summer.

Only 1 more really though because the others were out of contract. pretty much in line with Ashton's comment about losing 1or 2 with high premium value (can;t remember when he said it but I'm sure it was to that effect). It was therefore always on the cards (inevitable) that we'd lose more than Delap.
But I'm not sure we could expect anything else when he'd said that the future was going to be all about player trading. This is what that looks like so we'd better get used to it.
As others have highlighted, it's actually been the Ipswich way since Burleys time - he build the promo team by player trading over a few years.
I've no problem with it - but it does put such a lot of pressure on KM, MA and others to get the recruitment right doesn't it! |  |

Difference is this time is the players leaving were key components, some that have left previously like Ball, Leigh, Evans, Camera, Edwards etc never established themselves in that bracket.
Its inevitable, but certainly feels like a lot of change this summer. 4 of those were regulars last season in the premier league, and Burgess & Luongo were the promotion years prior. Its not changing of the fringe, but significant changing of the core. I need to see that whoever we bring in really moves the dial, that's for sure. There are 10-12 teams in the Championship who can drop £8m on a nice player or two. We have lost a lot of what got us up the first time, both tangibles and crucial intangibles, and while evolution is natural it will take a humungous effort from McKenna to create something similarly formidable. I'm not saying he can't do it and reserve the right to be in full p7ss the league mode a month from now but I think we are in a for a bigger scrap than most people are quite ready for. I have seen your comments about this before on here and I totally agree. This is going to be a very hard job for MK. He will have a lot of new faces who need to learn his way of playing. Well, if you factor in there were 418 starting places in the league last season (11 x 38) then we have lost 140 of those through the above *excluding Hutchinson* as he is still here and not in talks like Morsy.
Only Delap (32) and Morsy (31) were nailed on (30+) PL starters; then you had Cajuste (25) Tuanzebe (20), Burges (16) and Phillips (14) plus Luongo with just the 2.
There is a lot to do but looking at the squad today:
GK: Muric, Walton, Palmer, Slicker and Button - assuming Slicker and prob Muric to leave either perm or loan.
CB: Greaves, O'Shea, Kipre and Woolfenden with Baggott as backup
LB: Davis and Townesend
RB: Johnson and Clarke
CM: Matusiwa, Taylor, Humphreys (Need to add here)
AM / Wide Men: Hutchinson, Szmodics, Philogene, Clarke, Broadhead, Ogbene, Burns, Chaplin
Striker: Hirst and Al-Hamadi
Priorty remains strengthening the CM and Striker, and then review attacking options especially if we lose Hutch.
It's a pretty formidable Championship squad as it stands though - priority is strengthening for the Championship at the moment, ideally with players to then step up to Prem, but we should not get ahead of ourselves. |  | | |

It was inevitable
When we reached the PL we knew some were coming towards the end of their careers/jury out if they could perform at PL. Then relegation followed so some better players will want to move back to the PL. Plus relegated clubs always lose some players/forced to sell and we're no different to the likes of Leeds, Burnley, Leicester, Southampton in recent seasons.
It was inevitable we would lose players
Sad as it is, we need to refresh if we want to gain promotion and stay in the PL.
But sell players for good money and reinvest. None of our players are Messi, Ronaldo or Thijssen, they can be replaced with players of the same calibre or better. |  | | |
