At that age, most will have political opinions influenced by their parents. Leftie kids who were dragged along on Palestine marches will obviously vote for Jeremy Corbyn's Party.
But seriously, social media sites like Instagram and Tik Tok (which I assume youngsters are heavily influenced by) seem to be very right wing in the general comments I read. Seems to me right wing parties will benefit from this the most. But then will youngsters actually bother to vote? Interesting you mention this. My friends daughter turned 18 turned 18 earlier this year so was eligible to vote for the first time in the local elections. She's at a 6th form in Cambridge, a yraditionally Labour city, yet many of her fellow students stated a preference for reform.
Whilst I agree with the age change, I don't think this will be the boon for Labour many are predicting.

Whether or not it'll benefit any particular party, it's morally right. 16 and 17 year olds pay tax if they earn over £1048 a month so should have a say in how the country is run.
Also, hopefully by giving them the right to vote at 16 it might encourage more young people to be politically engaged.

Being able to vote at 16/17 is nice enough, but at that age I'd rather be able to travel and work in Europe, have some genuine career opportunities ( whatever social background I came from) and perhaps the chance to own a house before I'm 50. Would all be nice | | | |

That isn't unique to Reform and 16/17 year olds know that.
We're potentially walking into a Reform (possibly coalition) situation, and it isn't helpful to wholly tarnish Reform as it simply polarises further which heightens the problem. Surely we should have proper debate about the issues that matter to the general public with facts not noise, rather than making everything so political. It's odd that our political system doesn't seem to encourage that. | | | |

What kind of jobs are 16-17 years olds doing to get over 1k per month in take home pay? It ain't doing the paper round is it.

I don't think voting intention comes into it at all young people will be as diverse as any other age group. Even if they lean to one way or the other a bit it won't make any appreciable difference as this only adds an extra 3% more voters. |  |

My grandson told me of a lecture he went to at his college in 2016. It was a discussion group and the topic was Brexit. The vote was then about to take place. Most argued for Remain.
The lecturer then offered to bake a cake for the next session if everybody agreed to vote Leave.
The cake won.
But in the end, out of about 20 there, only 3 could be bothered to vote anyway. | | | |
