Ipswich currently 8th in championship table.. 18:57 - Jul 17 with 2874 viewsWallingford_Boy

Which to me, feels about right.

I feel a season of rebuilding required before a promotion push.

Or am I being overly negative (even for me)?!

RIP Sir Bobby

I would have said rubbish, but If we don't get a striker and another midfielder in before the window shuts, it could be problematic

If we're any lower than sixth by Christmas we'll have a new manager.

Agree.

Anything other than top 2 is a failure with this squad.

Hate to do this to you, but AFC Bournemouth will be top.

The A stands for athletic though, so I’d put them just below Villa.

Thanks mutters, that means a lot.

I want to be excited and I am sure I will be once we give Brum a good hiding, but losing such key personnel as Tuanzebe, Morsy, Hutch and Delap leaves a HUGE hole and as we all know, splashing the cash on new players doesn't mean success.

As others have said, the squad is still decent, I was just hoping we'd only lose 2/3 at most, at least Davis is staying!

I think your concerns are valid.

Not only have we lost ability on the pitch, but losing the likes of Morsy, Luongo, Burgess, Tuanzebe will leave a big void in terms of dressing room leadership and voice, in what is, a fairly young side.

Our defense still looks arguably the best in the Championship, and not a lot has changed regarding our strikers, but it's gone from looking like we need 2-3 in, to now needing 4-5.

It'll be an incredibly tough game trying to persuade Premiership ability players to make decisions so early in the window. Agents and players will be holding out for top flight deals and packages.

Lols, loving the confidence!

I’m purely coming from the angle that we were ripped apart in the Prem last season, half that squad has gone and confidence must be low.

We’ll see..

The confidence aspect is huge and something that a lot of people are overlooking

Our turnover has been, and will be, less than at a lot of other relegated sides who have gone on to have very good seasons. Burnley had loads of squad churn last year, the three that came down before that had loads of turnover in their squads too. It's normal. Stop worrying.

Pretty much agree with all that. I don’t think it’s going to be easy at all and at the moment we are way short in some areas. We need signings asp or we are in for a very rough ride. I can see the original posters placing about right at the minute.

In the same way a lot of fans underestimated the level of the PL, a lot of our fans seem to have forgotten the level of the Championship. We were in touching distance of winning the league last time out, We have bought in Johnson, O'Shea, Greaves, Matusiwa, Ogbene, Philogene, J.Clarke, Szmodics - a PL regular, another who was off the back of a good PL season, a Ligue 1 regular starter, and a selection of the finest Championship players of recent years.

Plus we will have more money to spend than most, if not all, teams in the league with parachute payments the Delap transfer and dare I say the Omari transfer. If Omari stays he's the best player in the league and that in itself goes a long way.

Yes there are gaps in the squad but the season doesn't start today and i'm confident we have the funds and ambition to bring in some impressive additions for the level. We are 3 additions away from being very competitive for automatic promotion as it stands (more would be nice) and we've seen how quickly two players can walk through the door. I think we have to accept that the delays probably mean we are really reaching for some exciting targets.

How were Leeds, Burnley and Sheffield United looking in say early October? I didn't pay much attention until late in the season.

My message would be not to panic if we don't come out flying, albeit it getting some wins early will be important. Pretty sure I remember Leeds having some early dodgy results (I know it was year 2 for them down there).

Agree and seems likely to me that August is a bit inconsistent.

Fair enough.

Seems a few on here share my concerns, but its Friday and the pub is calling me, I will forget my woes and drink for the Town!
