I don’t understand the need for people to put down something that others enjoy.
Genuine question, does this happen in other sports? Are male tennis fans like this, or male hockey fans?
It seems to be deep-rooted (whether intentional or not) in feeling that football is a male sport only, and gatekeeping it. It’s super sad - just let people enjoy what they enjoy. If you don’t - that’s cool. I don’t like rugby or cricket. I don’t jump on those threads. [Post edited 17 Jul 23:27]

Keepers have got really good at moving early but basically keeping a toe on the line. The Swedish keeper moved early but mostly along her line and when she did go slightly forward, she still had part of her foot on the line. | |

I don't see it happen in other sports, Tennis is a good example where there is probably a similar gap in quality between the men and women, but each are enjoyed independently. I think most people would have been "laughing" at those penalties if it was a men's team too.
Some people seem to be overly sensitive when it comes to the women's football. They are allowed to be criticised.
Also, the comparing was probably not helped by a lot of people saying when the ladies won "we/they showed the men how its done". | | | |

I have nothing against women playing football (or any sport). I think the negativity from men towards women's football in particular is largely down to how forced it feels from the media. They put such a spin on it that the reality is somewhat disappointing. I get that they need to big up the game a bit to try and get people interested...but I think they go too far and it has a negative impact. Even when watching the games the commentary is massively hyped - and that's where some mocking comes in. |  | | |

Yep England men haven't done much better, but if you couldn't see how bad that shootout was well that is with you.
2. It was absolute dross.
Maybe football over 90mins and extra time making it 120 mins is too much for women.
They only play 3 sets in Tennis in majors. So maybe 35 minutes each half would help, a 70 minute game, with 10 mins for each half if extra time is needed.
Maybe that is worth considering to improve the women's game further.
3. Yes there are commentators asking for Female parity wages with men. I didn't make that up.
I really wish the England Woman's team all the best. Hope they bring the trophy home and show the men how it is done again.
I don't mind people having a pop at me, but if you can't post in jest on a football forum without upsetting some delicate flowers not sure what hope there is. |  |

Just because some disagree with you it does not mean that you have upset them, it simply means that they’ve taken issue with you. Think you’ve overstated your original post there - and calling those who disagree with you ‘delicate flowers’ is a tad pathetic.
Yes, they have been a couple commentators or ex-players who have called for equal pay for men and women but they are certainly in the minority within the women’s game. Most realise that the mens game is simply far more popular and lucrative at the moment. So no you didn’t make it up but you certainly over-exaggerated that argument.
If women can run marathons then they can certainly cope with 90 mins plus extra time - in women’s tennis the main argument against ‘five sets’ is now due to logistics. I doubt that they can schedule in potentially a few longer matches within a fortnight. |  | | |

Tennis is an odd one - more women play doubles than men and when that’s taken into account they play as much tennis as men. The only reason that they don’t is due to the historical belief that women wouldn’t be able to play five sets.
The main argument now against women playing five sets is due to logistics as it’ll be hard to schedule in more matches if women’s matches could potentially last longer.
There was talk of doubles etc having their own tournaments in order to accommodate women’s five set matches. | | | |

Just don’t watch it? I haven’t watched a second of the tournament and have very little interest in the female game altogether tbh. Primarily because I don’t have the time to watch another sport. But good luck to them and it must be positive for young girls / communities. In a similar way I don’t really watch the olympics, or men’s rugby. Im obsessed with men’s football and ITFC mens - that’s more than enough for me - especially in a 46 game season! | | | |

Wage parity presumably comes from sponsorship and revenues - ie it’s not something that can switched on with a central pot of £. If somebody is willing to pay for it then why shouldn’t they have parity…. Suspect that’s some way off but they’ve presumably made strides over the last few years. | | | |
