RIP Felix Baumgartner 14:14 - Jul 18 with 764 viewsbaxterbasics

Who? I hear you ask.

That dude with nuts of steel who free fell from the edge of space and broke the sound barrier with his own body.

Guess in his line of work life expectancy was already limited!

Rest in peace you lunatic

Met him briefly at LHR T5 a year or so after that. Was asked to do VIP M&G and take him to his Chauffeur, I know boring, but true

Reports suggest he suffered a cardiac arrest, so he could have been dead before he hit the ground. RIP to a man who lived life to the full.

Probably the last person who’d want to rest in peace … far too boring for him.
My wife and I were only reminiscing very recently about the day we watched that moment, felt like the whole world was too…56 as alluded to is a fine innings for his type…the type that mesmerised us.

I was only vaguely aware of him, I think to say that the whole World was watching him is something of an overstatement (and not everyone who did watch would have been impressed if they saw the stunt as a waste of resources.) That being said it was an incredibly impressive achievement and no doubt yielded some important data about what the human body can withstand.

The other thought that crosses my mind, after reading some of the dodgy stuff on his Wikipedia page ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Baumgartner# ) is how elite sportsmen, in fact elites in general, probably suffer some emotional deficit in return for the benefit they get from training their body to near perfection.

Poll: What was in Wes Burns' imaginary cup of tea ?
