Possible Omari replacement? Slightly cheaper and will no doubt have potential top level interest but could he be tempted if they don’t materialise?

Given our wealth of wide-men / no 10s , and our dearth of credible midfielder behind them, do we, at this stage, even need an Omari replacement? What do others think?

Seems like Doak and Hackney are on our radar but also potentially on the radar of the likes of Everton so might be tough to get done. Either would be a great purchase though I think.

100% we will need a replacement.

Would be a brilliant replacement but think I saw Liverpool are after up to 25 million for him which is very steep in the championship.

Watched a fair bit of Lewis Koumas at Stoke last year. Looked a talented boy and natural Wes Burns replacement, pace and power and in that mould of a old fashioned touchline winger.

Not sure we would look to add to that RW area this season. I think Ogbene & Burns are perfect options for us in the Championship this season.

Perfect if both 100% fit, one not up to speed and the other one out for weeks or months.

Really? Burns, Ogbene, Chaplin, Broadhead, Clarke and Philogene isn't enough options?

I won't be surprised if we do sign a replacement and of course it's not an either/or, but it's central mid and line leading strikers we need.

Edit: I even forgot Szmodics!

Ogbene coming back of a long term injury and Burns not back till Christmas.

We need another right winger/right 10

Jaden, Broadhead & Clarke are all left sided players. Broadhead is likely to move on as well this summer.

We definitely will.

In Omari, Delap and Enciso we’ve lost three of our first choice front four from the end of last season.

Have we got thst star player though to give us the edge IMO these other players are capable but puts us more as play off contenders now we need someone who unlocks defenses Doak is a good shout

We sub the front 4 in pretty much every single game, which does mean you need more options than you think.

We've got 7 for those 3 slots, which means just 2 injuries leave you short there (and we're already carrying 1!). In 2023-24 we had: Broadhead, Harness, Scarlett/Sarmiento, Chaplin, Hutchinson, Burns, Aluko and used Taylor there.

I think we'd look to add an 8th if we could.

The answer is we don't entirely know. Szmodics, Philogene and Jack Clarke have pretty good track records of unlocking defences in the Champ, even if they couldn't quite do it in the Prem. Ogbene's record is decent. That's before you add in Broadhead, Chaplin and Burns, with what we know they can do (including scoring stunning goals).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Then we'll have to get rid of another winger/10 on top of Hutch, for registration reasons.

‘Need’ - probably not, but we’ve got the money. We’re probably the most attractive proposition for players in the Championship this coming season, I don’t see why we wouldn’t.

3 GKs
8 Defenders
5 Midfielders
8 Forwards
3 Strikers
=
27

I'd guess we need some U21s somewhere...

So you don't think anybody else will leave between now and the end of August?

I can think of up to 8 who still might be out the door.

Our 2 main RW options have massive question marks above their heads after major injuries. I love Wes but he’s had a string of significant injuries and may be he is one that needs to be moved on in favour of a younger more robust model

We've also gone down a division, I know how ambitious we are but we may have to cut our cloth for the championship a little.

Having read that both Jaden and Clarke are left-sided players, I observe that they're both predominately right-footed, which is where, I think, Jaden was deployed in the England U21s. I note also that Omari's eye-catching England performances were on the left. Most seem to feel that Omari is not best used as a no10, so I don't automatically see, apart from his charisma and sometime wow factor, that a direct replacement is required.

Exactly, unfortunately can't rely on the two of them with big injuries to come back from.

I can see a RW loan with option to buy type deal being the perfect option.

True. However you could argue that Burns and Chaplin played out of their skins in 23/34 and so are they likely to replicate that again now? Two years olde rand neither had huge amounts of game time in last 12 months?

Chaplin also had a good season for Barnsley in the championship with 11 goals. If Burns fully recovers from his ACL I see no reason for him to replicate 23/24 though Ogbene could be very hard to displace

Actually thought Burns was unfortunate not to post even better numbers in 23/24, he seemed to generate more than his fair share of near misses.

Also felt like last season he was gradually playing his way up to the level. The injury might have interrupted that but there's every chance Chaplin and Burns play at a higher level in 2025/26 than they managed last time in the Champ.
