says its going to thunder and lightning and rain in Ipswich from now until 3pm. The metoffice who they sacked off to cut costs says no rain. lightningmaps has no lightning across the whole of england. who's responsible for this fake news i mean weather report?

I always use metcheck these days, theyre far more accurate on weather, especially rain, than the met office, even if the wind speeds they quote are sometimes a little lower than actuality |  | | |

It is based on the ECMWF weather model from 24 hrs previous rather than the latest run so definitely not that reliable in an evolving weather situation. |  |

Im surprised it hasnt been questioned more, especially with these constant weather alerts that now form part of their forecasting and the met office too fwiw in terms of forecasting 2-3 days out is terribly inaccurate ime (and I note it because it affects which days I decide to go for a cycle ride so Im very aware of what the weather is forecast and what the weather actually ends up being)
and people are cancelling events because of it,so losing money

just like the dog show they cancelled due to the forecast extreme heat, that never showed up either.
but there seems no feedback loop, no one is challenging them or holding them to account on hold on 3 days ago (and 40-50 years ago 3 day forecasts were accurate) you forecast this, and actually the weather was this instead.
they just seem to release a forecast and carry on predicting the wrong weather. | | | |

To be fair to the BBC and Met Office, their hourly forecasts for the day do specify the chance of precipitation in a particular hour which is often much less than 100%. [Post edited 19 Jul 11:56]

The BBC had a discount using the Met office but the last government increased the price by a huge amount, BBC said OK we will go elsewhere. The Met office would have been the more accurate option but the price was way too expensive. |  | | |

I use the Norwegian one called YR, which ironically is usually more accurate than either the BBC or Met Office. Just search for it and type in your village or town, most people can get a very localised forecast which may be one reason for the better accuracy.
I also find the weather app on my iPhone pretty decent and better than either the Beeb or MO. [Post edited 20 Jul 1:03]
