Having added Grimes and having Eccles, Torp, Allen they are well stocked in there. General feeling is Sheaf will move on this summer having not been allowed to leave last summer. Had an injury last season and his head was turned by our and other interest. I'm convinced we will be back in and he's and absolutely ideal Luongo replacement. Proper rolls Royce in the champ. Great on the ball, brilliant in the track back tackle. Believe he can play Prem. Only downside is he tends to miss 10-15 games over a champ season with knocks because he plays the way he does. For me he is just what we need wand will cost £7-10 mil now. They wanted £20 last summer.

I find it hard to believe there’s been concrete demand from higher up the chain and it hasn’t happened. It would be quite unique, bigger championship clubs than Cov have lost plenty of players to the premier league. If PL clubs really want them, they generally get them. The sort of player for me where you would pay £4m - £5m as a solid and experienced Championship midfielder, but there’s no way I’m spending 8 figures on him. 2 years ago I’d jump at that sort of player, but where we’re at now I’d want to be aiming higher. |
We can always aim higher, but as a Championship club now, is not that easy to find PL quality players willing to drop down a league to join us. Foreign players may be easier to woo, but our overseas scouting network is weak and many foreign players nowadays are reluctant to move as well. Look at Ruiz for example. If we don't get a hidden gem from abroad, the best we can do is more Championship all-stars, PL youth loans and perhaps 1-2 top players from the lower leagues.

Yes the price they would sell for was £20 million. And it wasn't reached. He was their best player by a distance and they were desperate to keep him. He wasn't very happy about it but stayed professional but it definitely affected his start to the season. Cov also have spent time to effectively plan for him going. They will sell him this summer if the price is right (much reduced from last summer) as they have been working to replacement him and spend money in that area as he is wanting a move.
