You can beg to differ if you wish.

We will be lower mid-table by the end of the August on 15:27 - Aug 5 with 841 views | positivity | given the quality of our august opposition, mid-table would be pretty much par if we're looking at another 90-plus points season

We will be lower mid-table by the end of the August on 16:59 - Aug 5 with 517 views | SuffolkPunchFC | Par would have us on 8 points, and top 6. 10 points is achievable, and likely to be top 2 (possibly joint 2nd). In 4 weeks we will know.

But our first 2 games are against teams who also have new players. Surely, if it is going to take time for Town to gel, its the same for Brum & Saints?

Yes quite possibly. Until the season is 8-10 games in, we’ll only really get an idea then. I do think we’ll take a few games to get going possible draws with both Brum and Saints, hopefully undefeated and win from either of Preston or Derby then quite possibly being held by Sheffield United. That may give us 8 points from our first 5 games. Not disastrous but certainly realistic. [Post edited 5 Aug 17:44]

i'd say given that the first 2 games are against probably our top 2 rivals, 8 would be an exceptional return, rather than par

Depends how you measure it. If we were ‘one of the pack’ for this season, I’d agree - but we’re aiming for automatic promotion, and should be equal to or better than any squad in the league. We should have as our aim (therefore par) to win home games and at worst draw away games on average through the season. This would just about guarantee automatic promotion - possible a handful of additional points needed. Maybe we’ll drop behind that target in the first 4 games, and need to pick up ‘bonus’ points elsewhere, but that’s why I say 8 points is the par score for automatic promotion.
