Bring back the Lucan 1! 21:18 - Aug 7 with 836 viewsVic

Uppie this if you want the irrepressible, individual and irreplaceable Lucan back.

Come one Phil - let him out.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

I find that Phil has an impossible job administering this forum and deciding when someone has crossed a line. None of us sees everything on here.

However, the flip side of that is that most of us have done something at some point to wind others up on here. Giving people a second chance is often a good idea.

Sometimes there are those who step over the line repeatedly and Phil's paticence must wear very thin. (This isn't aimed at Lucan specifically as I have no idea whether he has treaded the line more than once.)

I had the pleasure of finally meeting LL in Auxerre, last weekend, after around a decade of various interactions on here.

Top guy, great character and despite his unfortunate Wet Sham links, is a full on, true blue. More so, than most on here.

Probably the only Towen fan who was invited by the Auxerre "supporters" to watch the match with them , in their end!

Lucan could charm an alcoholic out of their last pint.

(Never met him, but after three decades of interaction on here, you get a sense of someone).

I don't know the reason for his absence, and say what I say with affection, and hope I don't offend anyone.

One of my favourites TWTD threads of all time was when Lucan was in a pub in Norwich. He had a new watch which had the ability to mimic a remote control.

He kept changing the TVs in the pub to a different channel during a Norwich match, if I recall correctly.

Or was it that he changed it to an Ipswich match when he knew we were winning?

Either/or...

But that's only my second Lucan thread.

My favourite was the time that he and Lady Lucan were on a train.

Lady Lucan instructed him to make sure she didn't lose her handbag.

Lucan visited the toilets and "powdered his nose".

He then LiveThreaded (a few years before you could Live Tweet...) his descent into paranoia, as he realised he didn't have said handbag in his possession.

He went back to the bogs. Not there.

He went around the carriage, looking for dodgy characters who might have nicked it. No dice.

He made his last will and testament, to be witnessed by the good folk of TWTD.

He knew that he was done for, and that Lady L would never forgive him.

And then, a while later.

Lady Lucan's handbag had been on her fcking arm the entire time.

The one place he didn't think to look!

I can only imagine that those who know IRL have hundreds of such stories.

Was he banned?

Phil is phenomenally patient. I don't recall seeing anything grotesquely offensive from Lucan, but there had been a marked shift in his posts of late. If he crossed a line, I can only imagine Phil had a hugely difficult decision to make.

If it is a self-imposed absence, then I hope that RKD, or others who know him, will point him to the posts that show our appreciation for his contribution to our online community that has helped so many navigate weird and difficult times!

I've always enjoyed Lucan on here I have to say, I missed the thread that led to the ban but I am aware that Phil does not banish those that transgress lightly but I have to say ibalwsys found him entertaining and would like to do so again

I reckon a mass return for all banned posters, as opposed to carefully stage-managed reintegrations, is the answer.

Judging by the unbridled excitement the other night’s hostage release generated, it would send this place absolutely batsh*t for hits and have advertisers queuing round the block for a slice of it.

We’re all older and wiser now and quite capable of self-policing without constantly running to teacher, shirley?

Let’s do it, baby, it would certainly liven up my baby-sitting evenings and we’re all just one big melting pot of individuals with one common bond in life..

The challenge some of these banned posters is that generally they are ok, they can be funny, they are entertaining and bring a lot to the forum. Sadly all it takes is one or two posts for the mask to slip and you get to see a darker side of them, which ultimately leads to a ban.

We all often tread the line at times in life, some people veer slightly over it. Whether it is actually their real character or whether it's just a one off, god knows. It's a tough one for Phil to navigate, but what I've learnt since being active here since the late 90s is that it takes a lot for him to wield the ban hammer. Likewise he will let them back in when the time is right.
