It's going to be a season of tedious 'fans' 23:06 - Nov 4 with 11096 viewsjasondozzell

Moaning at every opportunity, delighting in having a pop at players and KM and then joining in the promotion celebrations at the end and saying 'never in doubt I love this team'.

It's going to be a season of tedious 'fans' on 09:36 - Nov 5 by itfcsuth

Jacob Greaves - £15m?
Dara O'Shea - £15m?
Jack Clarke - £15m?
Jaden Philogene - £22m?
Cheio Ogbene - £8m?
Sammie Szmodics - £8m?
Kasey McAteer - £11m?

Nearly £100m across them 7 players.

According to this poster we ‘criminally overspent’ on the attached players. The post received support. I was never sure what the criminal element was but I wonder what their collective value is now?

That poster was one of the worst in terms of negativity and never having a good word to say.

Im sure we will hear a lot from them and their similar thinking buddies next season.

If we're being blunt O'Shea might be the only one who we would see a return on, and possibly more, at this point.

No one is going to spend £8m on Ogbene but I'd say that's unfortunate because he was lighting it up against Brentford pre injury. What may have been... Let's write £6m off McAteer's value for now, at least. No one's going to pay £11m for him until he shows consistency in form; in fairness, he was getting there at the end of the season.

I think we'd get around £5m for Szmodics at most. Greaves had taken a step back in value and is now finding momentum again. Take that into the Premier League and his value will return.

Clarke and Philogene are funny ones. Perhaps a parachute team in the Championship would take a gamble on them for that amount, if we put them out there.

But in reality it doesn't matter. Promotion means the financial rewards outweighs the amount spent, and puts the club in a good position. And Greaves, McAteer, Clarke and Philogene (alongside, of course, O'Shea) all played a big part in that.

During a match, walking out of the ground or in the away end has been ridiculously negative

After games where we’d won, played really well for 45mins… and yet talk of McKenna not being good enough, or a player (who’d done well) being a liability etc etc etc

Yes and as you say I bet they were all peace and light yesterday

No one can say this season has been perfect, but it’s been a hell of a lot better than some perceived or vocalised

I wonder if the Prem drubbings created some fault lines?

I think the fault lines came from the Premier League spend leading to drubbings which would have taken place without the spend. The churn of the side where those who won us double promotion were, for the most part, cast aside without any sign of visible improvement in performances. There was a feeling we lost our heart for very little reward. Then the slow start to the season created more tension and, as I think you said, we never went on a sensational run like 2022/23 at a lower level or Southampton under new management this season. We just did enough. Would it have felt better had our poor start gone on for longer, and something suddenly clicked? If we move the defeats at Oxford, Leicester, Sheffield Unite and Portsmouth, plus the draws against Blackburn and West Brom, to the first couple of months and then we flew? Definitely. Like Southampton, it would have shown something had clicked, a problem had been solved.

Your post also picks up on another thing - played really well for 45 minutes. Hang on a minute. Are we not permitted to expect 90 minutes performances? Especially considering we certainly had a few where we were poor for entire games away from home.

Expectation through spend wasn't matched on the pitch. From 2024/25 onwards, our last appearance in the top six pre-McKenna, 84 points would have been enough for automatic promotion in just one other season. That team, built on the cheap, got within six points of our tally this season.

The important thing is we got over the line. But I also think the smug never-ending gloating posts about idiot fans who dared to criticise throughout the season are also unwarranted (not accusing you of this). The league has fell in such a way that we have gained automatic promotion but, if we are to build on this, then forensic analysis is required of all decisions made from the summer of 2024 onwards. I'm sure it will be.

I didn't mean to be so negative today but you asked a question of which I answered. So bring on the down votes - I'm used to them by now!

Apologies POB should have been clearer in my post

Not suggesting that criticising town for some of the performances this season, or for an inability to deliver full 90mins more often isn’t valid

I was replying to the point about super critical people, and some of the rhetoric I’ve heard this season has been completely disproportionate. There are factors why it’s been a grind, and some of the performances and the ultimate promotion deserve real merit.

Take McAteer absolutely slated in the stand for months. Surely no one can not credit his recent displays.

You're always negative though. You even spent the previous promotion seasons being relentlessly pessimistic. You seem to take very little joy out of supporting Town.

The moaners are very quiet now. Fair enough those who hold their hands up and admit they got it wrong but I'm not seeing many of those.

We'll be two losses into our PL run and they'll all be out in force again.

Yes, I probably am speaking more for those who were positive from 2022-2024, but not so much myself because I'm a pessimist. If it's any reassurance it's not just restricted to Town.

You're a good egg though despite the pessimism, and at least you recognise it rather than labelling yourself a "realist" like a lot of the negative fans tend to.

According to:

https://www.transfermarkt.co.u

It’s
Jacob Greaves - £14m(-1)
Dara O'Shea - £15m(=)
Jack Clarke - £18m(+3)
Jaden Philogene - £18m(-4)
Cheio Ogbene - £5m(-3)
Sammie Szmodics - £5.5m(-2.5)
Kasey McAteer - £10m(-1)

So £8.5m down.

Given the amount of money washing about in the PL and further down with the likes of Birmingham and that those Transfermarket estimates were before yesterday and that we are not fire selling, I’d be surprised if O’Shea, Clarke and JP weren't worth more than that. All hypothetical and on the flip side Id be surprised if we got that amount for SS and Ogbene.
