McKenna made six changes to his team with some fans having been critical regarding his rotation policy this season.
The Northern Irishman says managers need to be firm in their own belief in those situations and not bow to pressure from outside.
“I think you have to be strong in those scenarios because you know if we don’t win the game then that will be [perceived as] the reason why,” he reflected.
“I’ve said from the start that I believe in the group. The group’s going to be really important for us.
“How we have always worked over the last few years, I think we train in a pretty unique way and players have always been able to come in and understand their jobs and do their jobs.
“I think in the games when we’ve made more changes this season performances haven’t dipped in any way.
“It’s not something that I can focus on. We have a talented group, who are working really hard. It’s a benefit to us if we can utilise them all over the incredibly busy schedule that we have.
“It makes us a better team. It makes us a more dangerous, threatening team over the course of a 46-game season to have more players engaged ready, ready to step up at different moments from the start or from the bench. |  | | |  |

It's almost like he knows what he is doing!
He can go in and take training, plan for the next game etc. For us lot, all we can do is analyse the last 90 minutes until we get something else to talk about. |  |

He’s right. The ideal scenario is to have 18-20 match fit players who can interchange seamlessly. We’ll always have our MVP’s, currently I would say Davis, O’Shea, Matusiwa are the main 3 we would least want to be without. Walton due to injuries too. Aside from that we’ve got really good pairs for each position. |  | | |

Given the propensity we had to get long term injuries over the last 2-3 years it makes huge sense to play the squad game. We always try to be on the front foot and with the 70th minute substitutions mean everyone is expected to put in a full shift - no room for passengers.
Some may not like their favourite being rotated out (ok, when I say some I mean everyone whenever the team sheet goes up) but I suspect come March our squad will be the Energiser bunny whilst the majority of the other sides will be the batteries you get in a cheap Bush tv remote |  | | |

But why whinge at all, the manager picks the team he thinks are best for the game, so number 1, trust him, he does know what he's doing. Doesn't mean you can't say id have gone for this team instead, but that's not a whinge is it, that's just a different opinion, ultimately the team he puts out is the one to get behind and support
We know the setup we have at the club now for several seasons McKenna has often talked about having 2 players per role in the team so we can seamlessly shift them around, like we are doing now and have done in his tenure.
The next 7 games are going to be crucial to this idea of rotating the squad constantly because they are so closely packed I doubt we'll see the same team sheet list twice.

If he can get to a genuine first team pick out of 20 players, then we will have the best squad in this league by far. When other teams bring on subs, they are weakened...

The radio commentary made the point that by utilising the squad and making substitutions as well, we have players fit and ready to come in when needed. That is important. The headache of both Jack Clarke and Philogene on good form is far better than not having anyone firing in that position. |  |
