Hi All,

Has anyone used the premium class when flying with Virgin? Looking to book my holidays for 2026 and was wondering if anyone has first hand experience with economy delight vs premium and if its worth the extra £££.

Thanks

All depends on how much extra £ you are talking about and where you are flying to.

Economy Delight is 34" pitch and Premium Economy is 38".

Aerolopa gives a good idea of seat layout on each Virgin Atlantic airplane type too

You also get two bags , x 23kg, checked in on Premium. But only one if in Economy.

We flew Premium with Virgin to Florida last Christmas, I felt it was necessary to upgrade as we were traveling with our then one year old, and I have to say the service was excellent and it was a lot more comfortable than previous flights to Florida in economy.

The only downside was the service was absolutely dreadful on the flight home which was a code share with United.

First tried Premium Economy las year from Toronto with BA on an A350 and really liked it. I’m 6’2 so the extra legroom and, just as importantly, seat width makes a lot of difference. We then came back from Hong Kong in January on the A380 and splashed out again and it was amazing, what I’d always imagined first class would be like.

We’re doing it both ways to the Caribbean with Virgin this January and to China next October with Cathay. Adds about £800-1000 per person to a return flight but now we’ve retired, my wife and I have just said sod it, if we fly long haul we’re not going to be cramped again and actually enjoy the whole experience of the flight too.

Agree, I don't fly further back now as lucky enough to not have to. And similarly, as someone 6ft+, the physics don't work for any length of time.

Definitely worth it if you can afford it, can avoid the middle batch of 3 or 4 seats and can't or don't want to splurge even more for business.

BA also do have some very good Business fares right now in a sale that were cheaper than premium economy on some routes.

Weve usually flown PE with BA but switched to Virgin this summer as the price was better, have to say the offering was much better from Virgin.
Seats were in better conditions and more comfortable, the food was better too I thought, particularly as Virgin offer the option to pick 7 days in advance.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube which are worth a watch to get an idea of the cabin

I know it's a lot more - but their upper class is mental - they have an actual bar that you can sit at - with bar stools.

Flying from Lagos - one of the stewardesses asked if I wanted a massage (as they have an board masseur)

Would I pay for upper - no chance - but the premium economy thingy if it's an extra 25% - probably.

I used their premium once, but they were so slow in serving champagne throughout the flight, I won't ever use them again.

Yeah I had upper paid for by work to South Africa. Amazing. Everything in the lounge before you fly (food, booze, pool table...) is free, then the little pod you sit/sleep in on the plane is great. There's a button that we called the 'Champagne Button' that summons a steward who will get you whatever you want, and like you say a bar you can sit at. I never got offered a massage though!

Amazing how the other half live. I accidentally-on-purpose kept the pyjamas as they were better than my own!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

….the Gatwick to Vegas flight was great value.

The Premium Economy seats were in the “bubble” upstairs, they’d moved the 1st class seats downstairs.

About 16 seats in your own cabin, with a dedicated steward and as much free booze as you could get down yer neck.

We took advantage of that anomaly many times.

In general I’ve always found “upgraded” seats on Virgin better than the other UK carriers, but not as good as the Far Eastern/Middle Eastern equivalents.

I got upgraded to 1st on Thai Airways once from Japan to Bangkok once. I don’t remember a masseuse, which is probably a good thing being Thai Airways. The food was outstanding though. I also had an upgraded 1st flight with KLM down to Chile or Peru or somewhere like that in S. America. All I remember from that is becoming best buddies with the wine waiter and trying to get through their stock of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. That wasn’t a bright idea.

Wangling an upgrade or paying for it at least once is worth experiencing.

I think the masseuse was only a Lagos thing - that or maybe the stewardess just thought I was a good catch :-)

Reading this post, I have just been exploring upgrading my flight to Thailand. Not cheap, but half thinking I dump the kids from the holiday, go on my own and max the upgrade

Sadly they dumped the in-flight masseurs during Covid. It's only in the lounge now.
