Is there much point in learning how to drive a manual, and doing a manual test these days? Most cars are auto or semi-auto now. I dont think I've owned a car with a manual transmission for 10+ years. Many new models dont even have a manual option now i dont think.

Try finding a sports car now that doesn't have a semi auto gearbox with the flappy paddle things. Faster gear changes innit

Yes. You can drive an auto with a manual licence, but not vice-versa.

That will cover most non-new cars, plus hire vans and other useful stuff. Quite limiting otherwise.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Definitely, enjoy the cars out there while you've got the chance. Currently borrowing a mates Boxer while my car is in garage. It's old, it's battered, it's got over 100k on the clock, I'd never own one but for a couple of weeks it's quite a lot of fun to drive!
