Essentially yes, they’re reservists who can be called on by the Federal government (hence the various attempts by State Senators to block Trump from deploying the national guard in cities within their states). It’s rare they are deployed against their own citizens, or at least it used to be. [Post edited 26 Nov 22:03]

Just seen the shooting happened outside the Club Quarters Hotel, where we stayed in the summer. A really nice quiet area just around the corner from the White House. My wife did early morning yoga in the park opposite. So that’s hit home a bit. Very sad. |  |

Poor lass. From the little I’ve seen about it, it sounds like she didn’t want to be posted but sucked it up and got on with things, whilst also being a good friend to her colleagues. Sounds like they lost a good one far, far too young.
