A little bit of perspective. 10:30 - Nov 29 with 1150 viewsGuthrum

We are battling in the play-off places, not fighting relegation.

If we continue our recent sequence of form - WDWDWL - until the end of the season, we would be on 82 points. Which will put us comfortably at the top end of the play-offs, with a shout at the automatics.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

At times it has been frustrating.

At other times it has been very good.

If money spent guaranteed success, Man Utd would have won a title in the last few years.

Man Utd have been terribly run over the last decade and made some awfully poor signings for overinflated fees and been tactically inept.. I just hope McKenna can find a settled team, and these players are actually worth what we’ve paid for them. As we’ve spent a lot, and have a big wage bill now. I just can’t help but worry.

A little perspective is we aren't performing against teams that we should be. If you take into consideration that we have Azon,Akpom, Egeli,McAteer and Szmodics who have scored two goals between them. They simply aren't performing at the level they should be.
I let of Szmodics a tad as he's out injured and always puts a shift in. I am also aware that Egeli is new to the league and a young player.
The others I cannot really excuse.
I am not 100% sure this rotation of Greaves and Kipre is necessary and now that Cajuste is sidelined that we have adequate replacements in place. Cajuste has also been a bit in and out when he has played.

Well said. Far too much negativity. Last night we scored 1 and had at least 7 big chances. Very unlucky. Yet on here lots are complaining that we did not create anything!!!

We will recruit in January, tweak a few things and improve but we play Coventry twice in December which isn't ideal

But why is more and more recruitment needed?
We have bought loads of players already.
I never use the term happy clapper and any discussion re Mckenna's job is bonkers.
However I watch us play and it's just not very good frankly. We don't look like a team, the recruitment has been poor and the championship looks poor this season.
40m on 2 players for the same position!
No real alternative at CDM
No one to really challenge Hirst
4 right backs
etc etc

We're three points away. The league table doesn't care about feelings, it is based on facts. Why post things like that when you can see we are fighting for top 2? It's there in black and white. Your post makes zero sense.

It's not so much the defeats that get me as our lack of fluency, cohesion and consistency across games - there's clearly a spanner in the works, & I think that spanner is largely the constant rotation of numerous players.

We of all clubs should be aware that expensive individual players do not automatically mean they have the capacity to become a well-oiled machine! unless the recruitment/management make it so. Other clubs may have "lesser", "cheaper" players, but have managed to mould them into extremely 'together', well-drilled units. Just as KM did when he first arrived here.

We have probably the best two wide men in the championship,
And one plays 15-20 minutes a game giving up a place to a kid who isn't anywhere near as good as them YET,
To me that's suicidal management,
Is he pleasing share holders who forked out a huge amount of money on a kid or have the poor last 18 months bringing to much pressure to smell the roses,
Managers do it differently he seems to set up to win a game in the last 20 minutes, other set up with a win under there belts with 20 minutes to go,
Blew a big chance yesterday to show intent as usual,
Father time will not wait you for ever McKenna,
Managed a team not please others,

Egeli had a far better game than Philogene yesterday. The criticism of him has been over the top.

The other issue is both Clarke and Philogene prefer playing on the left. Neither have as much of an impact on the right - not that either did much yesterday.

I'm aware of Clarke and phillogene,
There professionals, Clarke looked good in pre season on the right,
The kid isn't ready,
And if he's is then we've wasted 20 million on one of the others when any one can see we need a proper striker, to many cracks being papered over

To enable recruitment we will need to 'dispose' of two or three to keep within the squad limit.

You can't get a free pass for relegation and say your squad is weak and then when your squad is the strongest not expect to be fighting for automatic promotion, you can't have it both ways.

We know that spend does not guarantee auto spots by now surely, the season we went up Leeds and Southampton missed out with monster budgets.

Not to mention we are within easy reach of autos at present

On I’ll play.

82 points is a poor return in a crap league for a start.

Taking our best run of form when we played no one above us apart from a McBurnie’less Hull, are you sure that will equate to what will happen over the course of the season?

The general acceptance around here and bigger picture outlook is frustrating, it’s almost like y’all resetting expectations as we go. It’s been pretty disappointing overall and big questions with some of the recruitment, again.

We won’t be in this financial position very often and I don’t see us anyway near taking advantage like we should be at this level.

Of the seven teams currently above us, we've only played four, all away from home and gained four points. Which is not a particularly bad return - unless you think we should, after a single season in the Prem, suddenly become a reincarnation of 2009-10 Newcastle (who still registered losses to Blackpool and Scunthorpe).

After a single season in the prem and two summers of spending basically over 100M with stable ownership and management I think we should be a lot better than 1.5 PPG, yes.

I don’t believe heads have gone and perspective is wholly in place. Looking at the table we are doing ok and where we should be but based on the value of the squad compared to majority of opposition we should be ripping the league up. We have recruited badly for what we have had at our disposal and this is the most frustrating thing for me as it’s even againsts ashtons/mckennas stated needs.

We have a disjointed squad full of some very vey good individuals but not a team and do not have the togetherness or different player types needed to wholly affect games when things are going wrong. Morsey was a one in a million player, he literally was so don’t expect a replacement to him but the lack of pace and up top physicality which is what McKenna and Ashton were screaming for and stated they were recruiting for, to have a progressive team that stands a chance of not only being promoted but surviving is a million miles away from the reality of what we have.

That’s my biggest frustration and also feel sorry for some of the players that do look like they are trying and really do care but trying to do too much them selves because of the likely reality of not trusting their team mates to do it. It’s like working in an office where you ended up doing everything and not wanting to send work to a subordinate because you know they will crap it up and create more work. If you kept passing to a team mate that was missing sitters or crossing into row z I would no longer pass to him and it’s obvious this is what’s happening when watching games and players on great positions being avoided numerous times throughout games.

why should we with a single season in the prem have a divine right to be above the likes of soton, leicester & sheff u who've had multiple seasons there?

We need to achieve the aim of going up. Doesn't really make any difference if you win the league by 20 points or secure second on goal difference.

Not excusing poor performances and at times, a lack of ideas, but the overreaction is a bit much.

Truly believe this will be a very different conversation at the end of Feb.
