Loves a bit of flag hanging bantz though heh!! Odd that!

I find it all a bit odd. Especially the Reform councils wasting thousands of pounds on them for zero benefit.

What does it mean? It seems to be a catch all for anything you don't like or agree with. Define it please. It doesn't offend me. I just don't understand the use of the phrase most of the time you use it. What does anything on this thread have to do with flag shagging?

My leave vote was based on many things. It was a mistake and if I could change it tomorrow to a remain vote I would. Would you?

Why do you interpret everything in a way which makes you feel morally superior? Is it deliberate?

It's not a catch all whatsoever, it's specifically the campaign of hanging flags from lamp posts but if I have to go wider than that it's also trying to encapsulate a misplaced nationalistic pride in the symbol of a divisive flag.

So why do you use it when talking about things which have nothing whatsoever to do with that?

Was going to edit my previous post to add that I have no problems with my vote but perhaps you could list some of yours.
Also the moral superiority thing is your projection and couldn't be further from the truth.

In relationship to the this post I think that it is telling, and therefore relevant, to flag up which end of the political spectrum you spend most of your energy belittling.

In my lifetime I’ve seen homosexuality decriminalised, the abolition of capital punishment, several acts of Parliament that has seen a vast improvement in race relations, a rise in home ownership, an expansion in educational opportunities, more workers rights, more health awareness regarding the dangers of smoking with a Parliamentary act banning public smoking, gay marriage, cleaner air, reduction in poverty. So I think engaging in mainstream politics has worked out very well thank you.

And yet here we are with a less tolerant, more divided, more indebted, more divisive society than ever. Open your eyes.

Still hardly flag shagging is it? My natural political home is probably about 60 if 0 is left and 100 is right so I may well spend more time mocking the left. I take the threat of Reform very seriously but you must have missed my repeated posts about how dangerous I think they are and how we need to do anything it takes (tactical voting etc) to keep them out.

I would change my vote as we need a strong Europe. We're trying to be the best friend of the bully in the playground. The threats of Russia and China would be better countered by a strong EU. We have also lost lots of trade benefits and other perks. We are stronger economically and safer as part of the EU IMO. That's why I would change my vote. I don't agree with everything the EU do.

Genuine question. Have you been drinking? I seem to remember you acting just like this last weekend and that resulted in a thread removed after you'd steamed in and made it all about you. Im guessing its drink-related as it always seems to happen on a Saturday evening?

"less tolerant, more divided, ... more divisive" do you ever look at your posts and posting style and consider whether you might be part of that?

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Flag shagger is such a weird phrase, especially when most people that use it have a bunch of flags or political slogans in their Bio’s.

Why would a countries national flag be seen as being divisive anyway?

All data suggests that you are wrong and that in the UK there is increasing social liberalism across almost all issues than when you and I were born (I’m assuming we are of a similar vintage) , including race relations, sexuality and what my parents generation would have called acceptable norms.

I think you are reacting to current events and the high profile of people like Farage and Yaxley Lennon rather than a direct comparison with the the period in which we were born and grew up in, where legal and overt racial/sexual discrimination was far more institutionalised and accepted.

That shouldn’t mean we become complacent though.

The problem here is that legislation doesn't equate to fundamental individual acceptance of others and personal growth. Personally I feel that the ongoing narrative of ruthless individualism over any meaningful sense of the collective/society is the death of us.

I do accept that current events might be making this feeling more intense than it might be.

I don't think your average Guardian reader would have been voting for the People's Front of Corbyn to start with tbh. Or are the Corbyn Peoples Front?

Most Guardian readers are closer to the centre than that. Obviously all lefties, but I wouldn't say hard left.

So in answer to your question, I suspect that most of us think that the Corbyn/Sultana show is panning out exactly as we'd have expected it to.

I would be regarded as way left of the average Guardian reader and it is very unlikely I'll be voting for them.
