Away end last night was awful 16:41 - Nov 29 with 5166 viewsSomethingBlue

Firstly, the following *is not to excuse a defeat that occurred in a depressingly predictable manner*.

But it was incredibly bad in there – just nothing going on, utterly dead and passive, even in those moments when we were on top or had momentum. About five people near the back trying to start songs. Quite a lot of interest in booing and abusing individual players but a lot less in offering encouragement or responding to what positive cues were offered on the pitch. Obviously fair play to all shelling out to make that trip from Ipswich on a Friday night etc etc but I think our fanbase is losing its way somewhat, if I'm honest. Very sad. Perhaps it's partly attributable to the deep-down knowledge that nothing will ever beat May 2024 but I'd say we have a perspective issue and need to kick it. There seems to be zero tolerance for anything below perfection.

Yeah, crowds have been poor on the whole this season.

I’d put it down to a combination of heightened expectations & not having a great deal of faith in this current side.

After years of a sugar rush and last year's crash I think 'normal' just feels too boring for some.

Some people need to remember it's a marathon, not a sprint.

We'll be fine. In many ways our biggest danger is the fans turning. We need to beat Blackburn. If not, a difficult home game potentially turns toxic.

Truly impaired.

J2 is it right to call his normal with what we have spent.

If we'd been a stable champ side with the promoted team not going up and this was the season we were going through id have said thats normal.

But its not really normal for a parachute club to go into December still looking like a side whos got no identity is it?

Spending what was it £150 mill last summer.. to the club they say to give us a chance of staying up which it didnt have a hope but the minimum would have been to hit the ground running this season.

Yes. We all expected more but this is football. We often see hangovers. Come back in March and see if we're still out of the top two. I genuinely can't see it.

Truly impaired.

looking at sheff utd, soton, leicester, it is extremely normal for a parachute team to be in this position!

Leicester didnt spend in the summer tho and appear to be having internal issues
Southampton recently sacked the manager because it wasn't normal.

I just think especially when j2 agrees there was a certain level of expectation. That expectation was driven by our transfers business and financial of them. Compared to how peoples expectations would have been without them.. so for me watching your side walk up the pitch under km is not normal.

it proves money isn't everything, it's not always easy to buy confidence and turn around a relegation season into immediate dominance.

if you don't expect it of soton, leicester, luton or sheff u, you shouldn't judge us more harshly.

Just goes to show you can't always tell what the atmosphere's like when watching on TV, because I thought our fans sounded good when I heard them.

The quality of our football is awful, we give the ball away so easily. Add in a lot of alcohol and plenty of the white stuff being spread around and it's no surprising people get angry.

Our support is dreadful. Truly awful. Perhaps the most entitled, miserable and feeble in the league. It doesn’t help the team, but the perpetrators know that and enjoy misery all the more.

If I was Gamechanger I’d finish the training ground and sell and take the well earned profit. There are much better clubs out there with much greater potential support, not least Wednesday.

Haha hyperbolic much? How many Champ clubs would take 2800 to Boro on a Friday night?

Truly awful indeed!

Although our home support is ridiculously quiet.

It’s easy to support when a team is doing well. True support comes when a team is struggling. I suggest you re-read the OP.

You know norwich fans expected top 6 this season despite doing nothing last season and at the end of their parachute time.

Sunderland players were being booed during their promotion season when they didnt win a game

Spurs have just booed their players off with half a game left.

Our support isn't that different to any other club its all based on expectations.

Expectations set by the club at times...
,"God help league 1" 2023 mark steed
" we arent here to make up the numbers. MA 2024

Ipswich town favourites for championship title - every bookie. Every pundit summer 2025.

I do think its doing town fans a disservice to claim the support is dreadful. Is there a small % of moaners yeah. Of course thats the game. But we really arent that different

Km knows that. The owners will know that. Ashton certainly knows that

Km doesn't help sometimes with some of his thoughts tho esp when his rotation doesn't help matters
" the players know they need to make the fans fall in love with them
" some players only on their 5 or 6th start etc

Swansea was a bit better, but even that took a bit to get going and was only a 7.5/10. We’re miles off where we were in 23/24 when even in defeat we’d be more lively. The general mood atoundbthe season’s performance seems to matter more than whatever goes on in an individual game.

Us last year? We were good getting relegated under Lambert too, although not full attendances. But all the plastics had gone and the atmosphere was pretty buoyant.

Even if some valid points amongst it.

You said game changer you sell up because our support is truly awful, don’t expect to post such rubbish and not get push back. It can be a bit groany if things aren’t going well but turns up in numbers is generally fine, if a bit quiet when we are not winning. It’s hardly super toxic like many fanbases, a few of you just get very upset at any criticism.

Sell up because of our fans, I’ve heard it all now.

This post so wonderfully illustrates the type of entitlement we seem to be suffering with a section of ‘fans’.

Hit Town with whatever unsubstantiated criticism possible.

Look at Luton last season.

Look at Sheffield United this season (still a parachute club)

Look where Southampton and Leicester are, AND remember how many years they were in the PL to build before their current struggles. Oh, and even the blades have spent 50% of the time in the PL over the last 6 years.

I’m not happy that we’re not top of the table, but I also understand we’re still playing catchup even after what we’ve spent the previous two years. I’m also confident it will come.

Entitlement is the only way to describe the behaviour of some people, and it’s time to understand by anyone behaving like this - you’re becoming part of the problem.

I know I’ll get downvotes from the usual suspects, but it’s about time they woke up and smelt the coffee. We’re not where we want to be, but add some context.

Away end last night was awful on 21:25 - Nov 29 with 2204 viewstractorshark

I imagine there are a fair few in our current away following who have only been regulars in the last 4 years.
So they’ve only seen success and not the 17 years of treading water in the Championship and the wilderness years in League One.
That understandably breeds expectation and the inevitable reaction when things go wrong. Last night wasn’t an isolated incident. We saw it last season, West Ham away being the worst.
But we probably all feel frustrated with the return on the transfer money spent.
The most frustrating for me is this is a poor Championship, certainly in comparison to the past two seasons, and we are making it hard work for ourselves.
The atmosphere at Oxford was rubbish but, that said, I genuinely think our away support has been pretty good. At Hull, we sang pretty much throughout, even though it wasn’t a great performance on the pitch.
