Relying on recruitment again 21:12 - Nov 29 with 2699 viewsringwoodblue

The Jan transfer window is already being mentioned as the thing that will make the difference and help us secure a top two or playoff place.

However, our summer recruitment hasn’t exactly worked out as hoped and the “need time to gel” excuse was trotted out so why would the Jan recruits be any different?

I think more disruption to the squad is the last thing we need, we have enough quality already but McK needs to coach, get them playing together and realise their potential. After all that’s what he’s being paid to do.

Having said all that, I agree that we do desperately need another striker but that’s the only addition I would make in Jan.

Poll: After 20 games where will Town be in the table?

There’s a structural imbalance in a squad that has four right backs and one defensive midfielder, o clear solution to be a number 10 and is still a striker light. That’s what needs to be resolved.

It needed resolving in the summer, it's still early days though. As Ashley said on the verge of December, the league isn't won after 10 games...

Burns and Chaplin wouldn’t be replacing Philogene and Clarke, the literally don’t play the same position.

Terrible ball knowledge from you.

I never said they did, however you are advocating getting rid of our 2 top scorers and bringing back Chaplin who can't make the Pompey starting 11 and hasn't scored all season, and Burns who hasn't played for ages and may well not be the same player he was before.

Burns also was less effective in the Championship than he had been in League 1, even when fully fit and in his pomp.

As I said, an awful take.

I mean you literally said let’s replace our main goal scorers with Burns and Chaplin, you literally used the word replaced.

I think your problem is you’re just looking at stats, very simpleton view I’m afraid. I carry much more weight on overall performances, team contributions and how the sum of the parts marry to make a team.

As I said, you’re showing me terrible ball knowledge, and I can’t discuss football with people like that.

Do a forum search for “January” and you’ll find quite a few posts talking about strengthening the squad in January and this improving our chances of finishing higher up the table.

Ah, so posters on a forum. There's likely people on here who think the moon landings were faked.
Not sure you should take it literally.

Recruitment has been very iffy and we definitely need a back up / new partner for Matusiwa, but, for me, it's up to KMac and his coaching staff to get more out of this squad. Can't keep on relying on the cheque book,( if they still exist) and Kieran is supposed to be a top class coach.
It's an odd season. I feel the team is underachieving and underwhelming.... but we're a mini hot run away from being second place. Still think we'll get play-offs minimum.

Think we need a central midfielder, Cajuste is no consistent enough, might carry an injury (?) , while Taylor just dont have the quality, yes he tries /works harder then Cajuste, but his passing is poor, vision limited. When he comes under pressure he just wants to get tid of the ball and plays it blind. Would like an upgrade centrally.
If we cant get Szmodicz, Akpom, Egeli and Azon (or at least two of them) to start contribute with goals and assists we need to find someone that does. I wouldnt mind someone with more intensity and desire in the ilk of our south american loans previously. If, like someone mentioned, we can cancel Azons loan I think we should try to find someone better.

The fact we signed Cajuste when Hackney didn't sign was such a downgrade I couldn't get my head round it. A fully fit Cajuste maybe, but I think it's been obvious from the start last season that he has fitness issues. Brentford got it right ...

Our January window has been excellent. Just think back to the previous 10 years when all you would get is a 35 year old journeyman!!

Please feel free to show me where I said that they play in the exact same position. I’m happy to wait.

You have suggested bombing out any of the following players - Johnson, Azon, Philogene, J.Clarke, K.McAtee, two of whom have 12 goals between then, and bringing Chaplin and Burns into the starting line- up as the solution. I haven’t even mentioned you also want Szmodics out of position on the left.

Your post has 5 down votes. I don’t think it’s me that has terrible knowledge, mate.
