Their fans do seem particularly sensitive about the pitch when it is brought up, almost like it was never a problem and it was some kind of conspiracy against them

While the odds were against them and maybe they knew their efforts were in vain, but that attempt to drain the pitch was the most ridiculous thing I've seen. Looed like a couple of guys sent out to rearrange the deck chairs on the titanic.
