Hate to dampen the spirits but this isn't the issue 17:34 - Dec 6 with 1878 viewsWonky

I doubt I'm the only who quietly thought we'd win this. When our quality players are given room to play this is what will happen. The problem remains of the low quality low block teams we regularly play. This was an issue for Mckenna all the way back in division 1. Still hope this post ages badly!.

It’s very hard to do for 90 minutes we need to do more in the first half of those kind of games. The first 35 today looked quite worrying with Cov on top, so it’s not just the low block, getting a goal before the break changed everything.

It's hard to like this post but I do agree until we start regularly beating the dross questions will remain and the first half hour or so was pretty sh1te.

However tonight not the night to focus on that and anyway you'd hope a brilliant result like today will give the confidence to kick the team into form and blow the Oxfords and Charlton's of the world away in the second half of the season

can we do it on a cold wednesday evening v stoke?

after their recent results, they'll be very much on the back foot, so it'll be a good test of overcoming a team who will sit back more

Totally agree.

Defence seems to have tightened up very well since Charlton, we will get outliers like Oxford where teams look to exploit Leif being up the pitch, but we are a third of the way through the season and seemingly have no answer for the constant low block we are facing. We are having a lot more success with goals when going more direct, time to mix it up a bit more.

Regardless of what era in history, a 3-0 home win against the league leaders is always a good day.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Stoke look a reasonable fooballing side, I'll be surprised if they dom't come to play

Not sure why so many down votes

I did think today if Civentry come and open up, we've got a good chance. It's very important we get thr first goal in games, then teams have to open up.

I know its obvious, you score the first goal, you're more likely ro win, but I'm sure we haven't got many points from losing positi9ns this season (unlike our promotion season).

I can't imagine many are going to come to PR and open up

BUT, we showed much more intent, speed, and quality in moving the ball forwards in counter attacks. Everyone will have a go at scoring at some point but we are usually far too pedestrian in breaking out. Today we were very effective, Nunez vision and quality long balls really give us better options.

I tend to think similarly. Teams who come to play football leave a lot more space for us to operate at our best. Fast transitions and driving forward work when the opposition is not rushing back into a compact defence at the first hint of losing the ball.

Nonetheless, we kept a clean sheet against the team with by far the best goalscoring record in the division (just the third time in 19 matches that has happened), while putting three past their also pretty good defence. Only the second time this season Coventry has been beaten. Those are very good achievements.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

KMs post match point is key, score first and the game changes. The opposition continue to sit deep and keep the score down to 1-0 or come out and attack more and leave gaps.

I was totally confident we would win today, although my bet was 4-1, simply because I expected Coventry to try and play open football against us.

I thought the first half was pretty even. Apart from hitting the post they didn’t look particularly threatening. As you say though, great time to score the first goal

after a 4-0 drubbing by sheff u and a poor loss v hull, they'll have looked at how we fared when coventry took us on.

think they'll be sitting back at the start at the very least

I didn't think we did what yiu said until we scored and it opened up. Definitely first half we didn't.
