Just back in Cheltenham. Some observations from the SAR 20:27 - Dec 6 with 3769 viewsCheltenham_Blue

People around me were on Hirst, Walton and bizarrely Philogene from the word go, I'm also surrounded by idiots. I'll give you some examples.

"Hirst, you're f**king Sh1t" (After 5 minutes)
"What's Hirst doing? Just wandering around?"
"dear o dear, there's no point giving it to Philogene, all he does is fall over"
"dear o dear, he's not very good is he?" (Matusiwa)
"They really need to take Hirst off" (after 20 minutes)
"Philogene isn't going to do anything, with his matchstick legs"
"Oh no, here we go" (Every time Walton had control of the ball)
Coventry keeper catches the ball then drops it and puts his foot on it (REF!! 8 Seconds ref, 8 seconds!!"
"I don't know why they keep giving it to Philogene, not with his spindly legs"
"They need to take Nunez off at half time, he looks shot"
"That Wall-E doesn't look strong enough to me"

Atmosphere around me was awful in the first half, no wonder the players can't respond to that.

General Thoughts

Thought we were great in the 2nd half, Kipre was immense, and I'm worried Simms might still be in his pocket.

Assistant running the line in front of the Cobbold was awful, maybe 3 times the ball clearly went out of play and he missed everyone of them

As a crowd we were poor until 2 nil up, you could still feel a lot of nerves at 1-0.

Well if you will sit in SAR .....

Wasn't any different in SBRL, horrible atmosphere in the first half.

There are some right mugs around aren't there. The first half an hour was not great but some of the reactions to Hirst and Walton in particular were plain weird.

I'm amazed at some of the comments about the support from people stationed around various parts of the ground.

I have had for a few years now a ST in Cobbold A and was overjoyed when BA came to occupy the seats behind me a few years ago - not least because I was no longer pointed at as the mad old vociferous b*stard being referred to the stewards.

Excellent support throughout the game from Cobbold A I thought and any negative remarks at HT were in conversation and what one might usually expect to hear at a football match.

I have over the years had STs in Pioneer, SARU, SBRL and SBRU. Really pleased to be where I am now.

Yep. Half of our 'support' doesn't deserve this team or manager very sadly.

They couldn't wait to put knives into Hirst. I was so glad when he scored. Probably annoys those who sit near me saying he's '*#&&' and frothing at mouth when he doesn't control a ball booted at him at speed but I just double down on shouting 'Go on George!'. He never gives up. One of my favourite players of the KM era.

Kipre was sensational wasn't he. Just came away with the ball every time.

Good mental strength today to keep working hard in that first half and keep concentration. Then we played our football.

Glad you're back safely in Cheltenham! I bet the drive was easier after that result.

I appreciate it's a long old way to Ipswich from Cheltenham but this does properly read like a day tripper report. Football fans especially a few pints in the tank aren't gong to exclusively say nice and supportive things all game. How can you remember individual comments anyway, were you taking notes?

Not to defend some of those comments but isn’t there a danger of overblowing some of this stuff and creating a narrative that’s not really there. Football’s an emotional game of highs and lows, people have had a few drinks and say stuff. This has always happened at football.

Of course they aren't, they will vent feelings, but we're not getting that, we're getting some idiots who can't wait to unload vitriol at the first chance and at any tiny error. It's embarrassing.

Grown men frothing at the mouth because they think the fact they've seen Furlong free means Walton MUST release it to him early despite the fact that I am sure KM will want his players to get set so the patterns of play are there for them to execute.

Hirst fails to control one ball fired in at him and people reacting like it's the most shocking thing they've seen on a football pitch.

Bizarre.

Yeah ok I hear you but it's football fans, it's drinking, it's impatience and it's desperation to get a win, it's always been this way, there are 2 sides to passion.
Not sure why we are calling it out like the fans should be sitting clapping admiring the art like watching a classical concert or Cirque du Soleil

No one around me had been drinking.
Some were using water to wash down aspirin if that counts?

I've seen enough football to know what is normal frustration and fans showing passion and what is weird totally over the top performantive rage.

A lot of casual fans returned after we got good again and some of the behaviour not good.

Fair enough, there probably is some entitlement creeping in amongst the newer/ younger fans. But I don't think ITFC fans are a set of massive wrong Uns compared to the average fan base attending games around the country

This is basically defending anti-social behaviour. Allowing oneself to lose control due to over indulgence of alcohol in no excuse.

Some middle aged bloke behind me in the upper Cobbold saying 'dont give it to Dara' in a childish voice a dozen times in the first half - do wonder the mentality of some so called supporters at times!

Well, it was a day trip. I left home at 8, got back in at 8. The literal definition of a day trip.

It's pretty easy to remember stuff when its absolute thicky behaviour and comments, no need to take notes, just go to games regularly, you should try it occasionally.

'regularly' = once a year? Enough to have to write a trip advisor style report on here. sorry that your big day out wasn't what you'd hoped for x

It seems fairly normal whichever club you look at. I don’t know what’s happened to produce so many short tempered miserable feckers, there’s probably a thesis in that for someone.

It’s not just the incessant whinging that gets my goat. The other annoying trait is the anger people now show for every decision by the ref (I suppose it’s no different to looking to criticise anything a player does). “Ref, you f**cking c**t, that’s our free kick/ throw in!!!”, even though it wasn’t. There are going to be lots of free kicks and throw ins in a game lads, you may want to chill out a bit as it doesn’t look like you’re in the best shape to raise your blood pressure.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Abusing players and delivering the treatment as so many of our ‘fans’ do is not support and neither is it passion.

It’s aggression, hate, a desire to fill up inadequate lives with vitriol. To fill a gap by thinking they can make a difference. If they can get a manager or a player’s father to say leave a player(s) alone that’s a victory. Thats a certain percentage of ITFC support and it’s sad.

Good to see you on here after my team won. A rare thing. Leicester did well. Good weekend for you with the closest thing to rivals they have with Coventry losing.
