| Szmodics up front 19:47 - Dec 7 with 1319 views | MrPotatoHead | I would like to see it. There was a game last season where he started there, Newcastle I think and it didn’t work particularly well but I think we need to look at that with the context of the opposition who were unbelievably impressive that day. In this division I think it could work well for us. | | | | |

Sorry I didn’t mean an alternative to Hirst necessarily but as an option when he’s eg suspended or rotated. The problem I find with Szmodics in the role behind is he isn’t as good at creating or with his back to goal, he can’t do that like Nunez can. He is a real menace though and quick, and he’s very dangerous running in behind the defence as we saw at Blackburn.

We look more balanced with Nunez playing 10 now Walle Egeli has found his feet. Something just doesn't click with Sammie or Akpom at 10, and Szmodics isnt going to get a game wide left unless Philogene or Clarke have an injury. Covering the Number 10 or 9 might he his job from now on
| Szmodics up front on 20:28 - Dec 7 with 977 views | mellowblue | He will not be great as a target man if the ball is anywhere in the air. Not sure he can compete with some of the big centre backs successfully. Really him or Akpom are second strikers and want to be fed rather than operate in the 10 position and do the feeding, I just don't think that experiment has worked. But if we play them in their true position we would end up with :- 2 wingers, a CF and a 2nd striker and a midfield 2 of Nunez ( provider) and Azor (enforcer), effectively an old fashioned 4-4-2 which is out of vogue now. | | | |

It doesn't really work with Sammy as the 10, we've tried it loads and it's not been successful. Hard to see where he fits in at the moment, I would even think Egeli might be looked at in the 10 ahead of him. SB

| Szmodics up front on 09:30 - Dec 8 with 411 views | Herbivore | Hard no from me. He's not an out and out striker, he can't lead the line and stretch CBs the way we need our number 9 to and he'll just be trying to occupy the same space as the three attacking players in behind. | |

| Szmodics up front on 10:12 - Dec 8 with 331 views | _CliveBaker_ | As others have said I think he would be eaten up physically. He doesn't fit that Hirst, Delap, Azon profile, but does certainly have the qualities you mention. Szmodics' best work is when he's facing their goal rather than his own. He might've had a bit of joy on Saturday playing off the shoulders of what was at times quite a high Coventry defensive line, but its rare we see that this season and more often than not against a deep line and 2 big centre halves I think he'd struggle. I'm not really sure where he fits in, or where we expected him to when we signed him to be honest. The only role I see him playing effectively in our system is that wide left position, but given we also signed Clarke at the same time and had Broadhead here, and subsequently signed Philogene it feels a bit muddled to end up with 3 expensive additions in the same area. Ideally 1 of those 3 would take the 10 position by the nuts and make that their own, that would help us out massively, but I can't see it happening. Clarke has the potential to do that IMO but its not something we've really seen. | | | |
