| Coventry 19:50 - Dec 7 with 2356 views | cressi | Had a great start, but you can't play two đ centre backs on the halfway line and a defensive midfielders in Grimes with a lack of mobility in front of them . Not quite sure how this has not been picked up Jesus the Premiership will be brutal . | | | | |
| Coventry on 20:01 - Dec 7 with 2250 views | Swansea_Blue | Hirstâs goal was hilarious. Werenât they even trying to hold a line inside our half? Grimes isnât that slow (or wasnât a few years back), but you canât push up that high and expect not to be done. Presumably theyâre used to things going their own way, so maybe yesterday was a bit of an eye opener for them. | |

Yeah, Hirst started his run 5 yards inside our half, and Infront of both defenders. Great positioning by Hirst, but that defensive line was shockingly high.

They looked lively & positive.

If Coventry had done this, if Coventry had done thatâŚ..that didnât and they lost. I donât think that the score line flattered us at all - they had a couple of chances which werenât clear and we missed a one-on-one.

Hmmmm .. don't know if you noticed but they gave all 4 of our forward players the freedom of Portman road for most of the match. Yes they had important players missing , but its the time of year for it. Doesn't look to me like they have the squad to walk away with the league. Might even start to crumble if that lead shrinks a few more points.

I never understand the 'if' argument. You can add that for any game, if Boro had scored that chance to make it 3-2 v Cov they win that game. If WBA had taken their chances and not had that player sent off against Cov, they win that game. Coventry have had a fantastic start to the season, they had confidence to knock it around but their defence didn't look anything special. If we had conceded that Hirst goal the bedwetters on here would be talking about poor recruitment. They got caught with a simple ball through to Hirst a few mins earlier and didn't learn from it. To be fair a lot of Cov fans have been worried about their defence and that the goalscoring is masking over the cracks.

Yes but one down, they have not been losing very often, they did get their defensive live much to high as previously poster has said it was well inside our half , just asking for trouble and that's what they got . | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You could say this about every single one of our games this season. We could have easily won every game apart from Blackburn where we just created nothing. Had we gone 1-0 up at Boro, had Akpom not hit the bar vs Charlton, had Matusiwa not passed it to the Oxford CB, had O'Shea not headed it to Brewster vs Derby, had McAteer not blazed wide vs Wrexham ... etc etc

They didn't give us the freedom of Portman Road for most of the match though. They gave us virtually nothing for the first 40 minutes or so. We did to them what a lot of teams have done to us and scored the first time we had a bit of sustained pressure. Going 1-0 up was key and made them be a bit looser tactically. Their CB's aren't playing that high at 0-0.
| Coventry on 09:01 - Dec 8 with 657 views | Pinewoodblue | Coventry played their own game, they didnât set out to stop us playing. Ipswichâs problem is breaking down teams that arrive with a point and would be happy to leave with one. Think it was Neil Warnock who famously said, after a thrashing at Portman Road, thatâs the last time I come here and try to play football. | |

3-0 didn't really flatter us at all, they were completely open in the 2nd half and incredibly naĂŻve in how they approached the game having gone behind. I don't think we were actually doing anything particularly special when attacking in the 2nd half, our decision making in a few key moments on the counter attack wasn't great and if it had been we could easily have won by more goals, but they were so open we didn't need to do anything special. I don't think Coventry are going to hold their place in the top 2, Lampard isn't a great manager, they are massively outperforming their expected goals and points, and I think this could be a tricky month for them.

Personally I think a few tweaks from a better tactician worked , thanks to KMcK
