Our ticket prices for away fans 01:47 - Dec 8 with 3576 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

Just seen we are charging Stoke fans £38. How on earth can we justify that? I know we’re not the only club to do it but £29 for a pensioner ticket to watch second tier football for a midweek game 250 miles away doesn’t sit right with me. Two weeks before Christmas as well to add insult to injury.

I’d be disappointed if Stoke did that to us and moan about it on here. Seems only right to do the same on the 0.001% charge someone with any standing at the club sees it and takes a step back to think about how ridiculous and borderline extortionate £38 is as a price.

Do better Towen.

I think we have to charge away fans the same as what we charge home fans in the equivalent area of the stadium. So, we could charge away fans less, but we’d have to lower the home fan prices as well. EFL rule as far as I know.

This is my understanding. Have to charge them the same price as comparative seats for home fans.

That's how much us non-ST holders have to pay. I paid more thasn that for 1 game.

Quite frankly its too much. But if people are still paying it then they won't reduce it....!

WE charge our own fans £38/£43 so why not away fans?

Yep £38 for Blocks A & B, £43 for Block C & E. I'd like to see it cheaper for everyone.

Stoke fans receive free coach travel to away games if they want it and are in a good spot geographically (for travelling if not living). Could be worse for them.

I pay at least £38 per game as a non ST holder and have only missed purchasing 2 games this year so far due to personal commitments. Category A games cost £43.

I am on the ST waiting list having moved to Suffolk in 2023, before then I could not consistently make games due to work/family commitments so despite having a ST on and off from the late 80s at different periods of my life.

Now if *all* clubs were to increase the cost for home fans to subsidise away fans then that would be fine, but that is not the world we live in.

I’m still puzzled as to why away supporters should be charged less than home or why the latter should subsidise the former.

If they want to follow their team and the minimum price for a stand is x, surely that’s what the away mob should be charged.

I agree. I've paid more at some grounds, leeds and Wednesday for example. Your call if you want to pay to watch the game and I see no reason why we should charge the less than home fans, and I see no reason why as an away fan I should pay less than home fans. Stoke get free travel to games so less reason to gripe.

... and, of course, this is why Leeds can get away with charging us £45+.

Because there's no such thing as an away season ticket.

Home fans for clubs can gain bulk discounts by having a season ticket.

Away fans tend to go to many games, so the equivalent measure is that ticket prices should be cheaper than a one-off home ticket.

There used to be, I had an away season ticket in the 2000's

£38 for our fans is a piss take as well while we’re at it.

It’s second tier football for a midweek game against Stoke in the freezing cold two weeks before Christmas.

It’s actually the opposite. You can’t charge away fans more for equivalent home seating (though plenty of clubs seem to manipulate this rule and get away with it). There’s nothing to stop any club doing the opposite and charging away fans less.

I think a fair rule would be to charge away fans no more than the cheapest price charged to home fans anywhere in the stadium. It’s not like they have any choice about where they sit.

Yes they do, they have the choice not to buy a ticket, its simple supply & demand, no ones forcing them to pay it

If they all stayed at home, great, more tickets for home fans and we dont have to listen to chants about sitting in a library

I think our away fan ticket philosophy was triggered largely by what clubs tried to charge us, as we were often getting charged stupid amounts by some clubs, Leeds being the most obvious, so we responded in kind in a well this is what we charge our fans, so tough.

anyone sitting in Cobbold upper block A or B, is paying £38 quid too., the ones in the middle are paying £43 up there for this game

I mean were charging £50 to sit at the back of the West stand with a gigantic press box stuck in front of them.

These are just the prices we charge now

I think you may have misunderstood my point. No one’s saying that away fans don’t have a choice whether to go - I’m saying that, if they want to go, they aren’t given a choice about where in the stadium they sit and how much they pay. Home fans are. If we can’t accommodate them in our cheapest sections, I don’t really see why they should have to pay any more than we have to. Likewise for our fans at away matches.

Granted, we aren’t the worst for this as they do at least get an excellent view at Portman Road, but there are loads of clubs who manipulate the rule to charge away fans more, usually by designating small areas of home seats (often sold mostly to season ticket holders) as ‘equivalent’ to the away section. You’re right to call out Leeds, who used to shamelessly engineer their ticket categories to charge us top whack. And to give more recent examples, our fans were paying £6 more in the lower tier behind the goal at Blackburn than home fans with a better view on one side were paying, while Southampton charged us 67% more than some home fans with directly equivalent views last time in the Championship. That’s why the rules need to change.

Why not , we pay similar as home fans.
Plus away fans seem ok with it as always fairly full and don’t have pay it if don’t want to.

Haha indeed but that’s why I’m surprised, I’d have thought the further hike in prices this year would have got more pushback given the way last season unfolded and relegation

Using Southampton at home as an example, equivalent tickets in upper Churchmans:

2023/24 - £34
2024/25 - £36
2025/26 - £43

Scale of increase just seems to have slipped completely under the radar
