| Wes Burns: “I’d love to stay” on 06:59 - May 6 with 3429 views | itfcserbia | We gave a 3y contract to Akpom who is 30 which seems pretty mad after a season he's had. To let Burns go if he wants to stay would be the same level of madness and not a good look for the summer. | |

You do realise the deal was organized for Akpom 12 months ago?

You’re looking in hindsight as you need to consider when the Akpom deal was agreed there was a greater expectation of impact. Likewise Burns continues to come back from a horrendous injury, and has had some other niggles. I’d love Burns to stay but we can’t make judgement on deals arranged 9 months ago and need to see what happens down the right side. I em expecting MacAteer to continue to have a bigger role and impact, the last 6 weeks have certainly shown he can deliver more and more. Going to be an interesting summer.

Yeah, that's not the same thing at all. It wasn't a considered thought out decision based on our position as a club going back to the prem and the season the player had. It was an agreement based on the hopes of what a player could be at the start of last season. Apples and oranges. I'm torn with Burns. Would love him to stay, my heart says keep. But my brain says we should be able to do better and we need the squad space. But I'd love to see him stay and really add something in the prem.
| Wes Burns: “I’d love to stay” on 07:41 - May 6 with 2981 views | nrb1985 | Not ITK per se but heard from somebody who heard from somebody who heard from somebody else that he’s been offered 1yr + 1 depending on appearances. So it’s with Wes as KM broadly alluded to last week is my understanding. | | | |

That makes sense. Reading between the lines of KM's comment, the deal is clearly there and with no pressure to make a swift decision. But I imagine there are also longer/better-paying deals available elsewhere.

FWIW said person is in the football world and told me two ITFC related things before. One was spot on, the other less so. But what I was told sounds in line with what KM hinted at. [Post edited 6 May 7:52]

| Wes Burns: “I’d love to stay” on 08:14 - May 6 with 2566 views | DJR | In my view, our best right-sided attacking option this season, and I think he played a key part in getting us over the line. I'd keep him in a flash but he would be unlikely to be a first choice starter. [Post edited 6 May 8:21]

| Wes Burns: “I’d love to stay” on 08:44 - May 6 with 2252 views | Bellevue_Blue | Let's be honest, he's not going to be asking for crazy money and he's worth the two year deal for the intangibles alone, his understanding of the system, ability to drive standards in training, his culture fit, his affinity with the fans .. I could go on but this summers new signings will be better for being in a squad with Wes Burns. [Post edited 6 May 8:46]

| Wes Burns: “I’d love to stay” on 10:14 - May 6 with 1732 views | Rimsy | He's come back strong from his injury. Well worth keeping as a squad player and as an elder head in the dressing room. He deserves a 2 year deal at least, got a few good years left in him. | |

| Wes Burns: “I’d love to stay” on 10:37 - May 6 with 1640 views | HighgateBlue | Hmm, now that would be interesting. As others have said, he's been our best RW option this season when he's been available. Against competition who have cost eye-watering sums. What would it mean for McAteer? Egeli? Aspirations to sign an Azeez? As I understand it, Egeli doesn't count for a squad place, so at least in those terms I suppose we could accommodate Burns. But if McKenna wants to sign another young and talented RW with a "high ceiling" and potential re-sale value, I'm not really sure how we make the numbers work and keep everybody happy. It's not like Burns can realistically double as a RB in the Prem. And I can't see McAteer being shipped off, because we spent a lot on him, his form did improve, and Kieran does clearly think he has something. Having spent so much on that position already, can we afford to keep splashing the cash at the expense of other positions that desperately need an upgrade? In short, I love Wes Burns ever so much, but I've no idea what Kieran's plans are for that troubled RW position! | | | |
| Wes Burns: “I’d love to stay” on 10:56 - May 6 with 1559 views | Guthrum | It's a balance between what he wants and how valuable the club (dispassionately) thinks he is going to be - particularly the length of contract. I'd have thought that, assuming he can avoid injury, a season of playing in the Prem will do no harm to Burns' "last big contract" prospects. It would delay the inevitable drift down the divisions for another year when he is, really, still in his footballing prime at 31. I'd personally say keep, but perhaps not a long contract. | |

| Wes Burns: “I’d love to stay” on 11:22 - May 6 with 1453 views | BseaBlue | Keep him. Mcateer looks to me as if he has learned a lot from him this season so I'd keep him around for that, as well as his contributions that he offers on the pitch. | | | |

The rumour is while he wants to stay, there's money on the table elsewhere that might be immoral for him at his age to refuse, but we are the only way he's playing in the top flight again, so he's having to make a big choice.

In which case, taking an objective and dispassionate view, he should take the big money move with our best wishes. I can't blame him for playing the 'I appreciate the offer on the table, I'd dearly love to stay at Town, and clearly the fans do too; but I can't ignore Team X's offer' card. If I was in his shoes, I'd want to see if I could get Town to match the offer and save me the upheaval of moving.

It’s not “immoral” to refuse money for good reason/s!

SWE won't work as a RW and so he goes out on loan... and so we can go with McAteer / Wes... and another( Azeez?). If by Jan, it isn't working for Wes, we give him a send off and loan out
