Spygate part 3638744 07:43 - May 20 with 1470 viewsMJallday

Does anyone else believe that Southampton spied on Oxford (for a nothing game) in December then waited 4 months before spying on ITFC?

Conveniently these are the ones that they dropped points on and they just so happened to
Admit

I think there’s more to come on this. Imagine getting docked 4 points (and of course the POs) for 2 spying on 3 games

Imagine what would happen if it was discovered 12 or so more clubs came forward

They could end up with a bigger points deduction

You are quite correct if course they will have done it many times if not all games (at least where viewing access permitted).

I don't think there will be any further investigation since they have admitted guilt and had a very harsh penalty given. I suspect the high likelihood of this not being the only cases was taken into account but their admission and need for quick decision will have put it all to bed now.

If they got a significant reduction on appeal it could all kick off though.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s happened every game since the new manager arrived. Would seem very odd if they only spied on us and Oxford and no others in between.

Conveniently, both other clubs they have admitted spying on are not in the same league next year too. I suspect they admitted to these ones in an effort to stop the points deduction punishment being too harsh, as they'll claim the clubs affected will see no benefit from it.

They've clearly spied on everyone, you don't just spy on 1 or 2, it's been rife since the management team were installed.

The other teams

A) aren’t in the same league next season ( coincidence I’m sure)
B) were spied upon, but maybe just not within 72 hours of kick off
C) may still take legal action if they can prove they were disadvantaged

Saints are screwed, hilariously

There’s a pattern of behaviour here, so I suspect there were more occasions when they weren’t caught. As I mentioned yesterday, it would be fascinating to see the location data from the phones/sat navs of their analyst(s). There will be plenty of Championship training grounds popping up I suspect.

Seeing as this was a Football League offence and not prohibited in the Premier League, are Town going to be employing their own secret squirrels next season?

What I find strange is they admit spying on Oxford but nothing about the Coventry game six days earlier.

I doubt if they have lied about it but they certainly have been dishonest assuming the panel are allowed to seek responses to questions and asked if they had spied on any other clubs and answered no.

Germany is a strange set up. While there is nothing to stop you trying to spy the clubs make it difficult to succeed.

The truth will only emerge if the FA charge any individual with bringing the game into disrepute.
The Sporting Director is also German and more likely to have known what was going on.

Eckert has stated he didn't realise that spying wasn't cheating of course there are more cases. There are bound to be more cases they're clearly trying it on.

It was being reported this morning that he is likely to be sacked and banned from football entirely for up to 18 months.

Plus players appear to want to sue for loss of earnings now too.

If Eckert was that unaware of the rules governing the League he was managing in, then he's negligent and the rest of the club are entirely at fault for not having advised him better.

It's not like the Bielsa scandal and its aftermath were unreported or little known.

You don't send someone to spy who can easily be recognised.

You send someone who isn't seen at games etc. Frimley would be perfect for us for example... ;)

That makes it a *lot* worse imho. Reprehensible to instruct an intern to do something illegal which could adversely affect his future career.

Surely the only loss of earnings they could say that they’ve lost out on is any bonuses for the extra playoff game being in the final. They may or may not have won the final, so there’s no definite loss of earnings beyond the final. Can’t see that claim holding any water.

Prior to playing Southampton away in April, a game Southampton had to win in order to keep their chances of automatic promotion alive, we trained at Eastleigh prior to that match.

It's been reported that Southampton spied on that training session. Also that the spy was dressed in an Eastleigh football kit to hide his association with Southampton F.C.

I have no sympathy whatsoever with the management or ownership of Southampton for blatantly cheating on a number of occasions against the rules of the football league in which they participated.

I do have some sympathy with the fans of Southampton who have had the opportunity of seeing their side play in a play-off final taken away from them. None of this is the fans fault, it's been taken away from them by the management and/or ownership of Southampton because they cheated.

Edited for spelling!

I wonder why, if he didn't think it was cheating but was entirely allowed, he got his assistant to dress up in an Eastleigh shirt and not a Saints one, or just any other clothing.
