Hull are in for a battering next season.

That's amazing! (to quote a very authoritative 'Australian' TV mainstay).

Nodge to just miss out on even the extended play-offs next season too, with the quality of the teams coming down. Shame. (I know I'm projecting)

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

They were unimpressive for sure but their style of tight football might suit them better in the Premier than our expansive style. We'll have to change our style a bit to stay in games, they won't.

Still can't see them staying up though.

So we didn't even get an XG of 100 goals, let alone but getting the actual 100 goals many presumptuously expected.

I posted something about this in a thread yesterday (but didn't link the table) :

The thing is, the underlying stats normally catch up with a team. It’s phenomenal that Hull have surfed a full season of results way ahead of where they’d have been expected to be. All credit to them. I suspect next season will be incredibly tough for the .

The are well set up (as a defensive unit), but where I think they’ll get caught out in the PL (obviously subject to changes), is goals conceded. Their xGA is 82 - had they been close to that, they’d have only been 2nd to SheffW. The PL is more clinical than the Championship, so all things equal they’ll concede a lot and wins will become draws, and draws losses.

It will sure be interesting to follow them next season.

Hull are in a very similar position to Sunderland in the PL (also relegated based on their expected results from statistical performance analysis). This is why I think Sunderland may struggle next season, unless there is a significant upturn for them, and Hull also need to shift significantly to avoid it catching up on them.

What a difference having a clinical finisher has.

I think they had the highest percentage of goals per shot on target. But then again they have one of the lowest numbers of shots on target. Stats hey.

Well yes, this is part of the story - but misses an equally important stat at the other end of the field. They have conceded far few than would have been expected given the quality of chances to score against them, but lack of good finishing by many of the teams they've played against has led to them conceding far few than would have been expected.

Whether this is a statistical anomaly or a reflection of the league, they would fair less well against team in a better league. So much for them to do for next season.

We’re not that expansive imo. Certainly less than last time out.

Absolutely.
We could have been promoted weeks earlier.
I think that it also shows what a good job McKenna did.

What do you mean by tight? They have the second worst xG against, only beaten by Weds.

It would be interesting to see the league prediction competition rankings against expected points.
