Lets face it, its not just Arsenal, there are a lot of West ham that have moved out this way, a few Chelsea etc.. I wonder if the club have a strategy to try and retain / educate the importance and enjoyment you can get from supporting your local club?

Win. Be successful. Sadly it's as simple as that in most cases.

We're actually in a fantastic period. There's so many town shirts etc to be seen in town and it's great to see young people in town apparel.

It was a wasteland during most of the Evans years. Loads more top 6 shirts.

I'm never understand those living here that follow say Arsenal without any connection or reason.

It's capitalism end game stuff again isn't it. Pick up a club in an Amazon sale.

Let's be honest, the powers at be in football want us regional clubs gone and instead leagues made up of "Super" teams of internationals they can mass market to plastics who are glued to phones, so ads can be beamed directly into their brains.

Agree with those a few years back we had quite an ageing fan base and very little younger support, thankfully that has changed and as you say great to see so many kids in town shirts now rather than Man City etc.

In a Town of 130000 with a fair degree of London overspill you are bound to get a small number of plastics supporting other clubs highlighted by one of em playing in the biggest club game in the world.
But rightly or wrongly they were not exactly welcomed.
Living in Ipswich going shopping etc etc you can't fail to be impressed by the amount of young and old, male and female wearing Town colours.

Look up "European Super League" and social media advertising strategy's and addiction and tell me that's all a conspiracy? They have already tried to form and get away with the super league, and social media's addictive strategy to sell us toot (see TikTok) is already widely documented, which is the sort of mindless consumerism that the money behind world football want from fans of the game.

Just don't see how you can get attached to a club without going to games and experiencing all the highs and lows.

And these fans will never get to go as Arsenal have a ST waiting list of 100k.

Incidentally, my Dad was from London and spent his youth in the North Bank watching Arsenal throughout the 50's/60's and 70's along with my Grandad, but since moving up here in the 80's he's got more affiliation with Ipswich than Arsenal.

Depends what you mean by 'local' club. Plenty of Town fans who would be more 'local' to Colchester or even Norwich. I've never been local to Ipswich. The nearest I've lived to Ipswich is Wakefield but I've been going to matches since 1975 and now fly from Ireland to home and away with my son who was born in Limerick. How you chose and support your club is a personal choice. Leave them too it if they want to support a London Club. I think you have to go through a bit of adversity to truely appreciate the good times, but that's not for everyone.

Agree that the new young fan base over the last 4 years is one of the refreshing things from some success on the pitch. Long may it last.

Although sadly, with success, Town also have many younger fans, my grandchildren among them, for whom getting a ticket to attend a game is a thing of the past.

It does happen, mate of mine who'd historically supported Manchester United moved to Ipswich in his 30s, took him to Portman Road a few times and now he has a season ticket with two of his kids, now much more of a Town fan than a Man U fan because going to the game just hits different.

Some people just don't get the bug though.

The strategy is simple, be in the Premier league, win some games, be successful, you can see how thats increased our fan base of late

And i dont think alot of West Ham fans moved here, what happened was post our 2005 playoff against them and our decline to mid table Championship mediocrity and lower, West Ham became an attractive alternative club to support for alot of people in Essex/South suffolk who would have traditionally supported Ipswich in the Robson era. Where did you think 10,000-15,000 of our fans went, they werent all sat at home waiting for Ipswich to come good again, alot went off to support other teams

When they moved to Stratford it was even easier, cheap tickets and a quick hop on the train, probably for most similar journey time to get to Ipswich for them.

I know some even who were joint season ticket holders with Town, West Ham games were nearly always moved to for tv, they could watch both teams see some premiership games cheaply and even enjoy a bit of success, they've been to Wembley, got in Europe.

As for the current Arsenal fans, they're just the same type who would have followed Liverpool in the 80s, Man Utd in the 90s, Chelsea in the 00s, Man city in the '10s

Simple test next time you see one, just talk to them about anything Arsenal related from 20years ago, most of them wont have a clue.

Which is why they unironically sang at us last time we met that we'd never be able to sing Champions of England
