“Ducks in a roll” is a great image. Tasty too, depending on the type of roll.

Let’s please not have this McKenna managerial circus ALL summer long again by cressi 2 Jun 21:23
I imagine this won't entice McKenna as Fulham coming mid table is the tip top of their ambition hence why Silva has left, plus going home to his boyhood club.
We will need to have our ducks in a roll for when the transfer window opens as different managers will have different views of what is required.

For me, loose and lose is the the one that really destroys a well crafted post by someone.

Yea there posts lose all credibility when they make that mistake.

That one always stands out like a neon sign to me ^

"Crown jewels" (priceless items kept in the Tower of London) used instead of "family jewels" (a chap's private parts, required for making a family*).

"Spitting feathers" (very thirsty) used instead of "spitting fire" (very angry).

* with certain exceptions, of course

The feathers one appears very much disputed and subject of a north south divide.

Dripping wet.
Soaking wet.
Jesus wet.

Someone needs to truly define this scale.

"Jesus wet".

Isn't that when you're entirely dry except for the soles of your feet?

I know a guy who confuses throwing toys out the pram and throwing the baby out with the bathwater and when instructing people not to overreact will say "Don't throw the baby out the Pram"

I know a guy who got in a muddle over "as mad as a hatter" and "as mad as a box of frogs" and said "as mad as a box of hats".

A Lancashire friend of mine was mystified when I told him that a mutual acquaintance was "a bit queer." I had to explain that it meant he was feeling ill.

Full marks for the Alan reference. This one is interesting because even when people get it ‘right’ they get it wrong. ‘The proof of the pudding is in the eating’ is the real aphorism, so if it’s going to be shortened it should be ‘the proof is in the eating’!

Sorry if this is off thread. But a chap we had at work we called "Pissed off" as when you asked him how he was he'd say "Pissed off"
Several little ditties you may or may not know.
Years ago people took small piglets to market in a sack so the expression came about a "Pig in a poke"
Often they tried to scam buyers by putting a cat in the bag, but the buyer wouldn't fall for it. Hence "Letting the cat out of the bag"
It was said that "Money for old rope" came about because old hangmans rope was cut into pieces and sold.
Dead Ringer came about as in the past a tube would be put down to a buried coffin. At the top would be a bell and a string down the tube to the coffin so if the "Dead person" came to life they could ring the bell.

Sneak peak really winds me up.

A sneak peak would be a pilot's worst nightmare. Perhaps if he'd taken a sneak peek out of his window he'd have seen it coming. Perhaps if it surprised him how interesting it was it'd be a sneak pique.
