Available managers if McKenna goes.... 09:43 - Jun 3 with 9691 viewsitfcjoe

....just looking at Betting markets for Palace, Fulham and Burnley jobs as assume between them would cover most of the options...

Thomas Frank
Frank Lampard
Robbie Keane
Sean Dyche
Sir Gareth Southgate
Gary O'Neil
Scott Parker
Ange Postecoglou
Brendan Rodgers
Liam Rosenior
Craig Bellamy
Steven Gerrard

Managers in post at Championship clubs who have done a decent job
John Mousinho
John Eustace
Vitor Matos
Kim Hellberg
Tonda Eckert
Brian Barry-Murphy

Not a particularly inspirational pair of lists....haven't worried with names from foreign markets as whilst know a bit about a few of them, wouldn't know who is or isn't realistic. Plus you'd expect us to look at successful coaches as well.

Lots of the names above would be total non-starters as well

only heard good things about that eckert chap.

That's not an inspiring list at all.

I know some rate Rosenior, but I don't see it at all, and he has a pretty mediocre record over a number of jobs.

Can't help but think Frank would be aiming higher than us, but you never know.

As you say, some of those are non starters, or in my view an awful fit (John Eustace).

Maybe we would need to go for a European option.

I raise you a Rosenior and give you a Brendan Rodgers.

With Alan Pardew as DoF.

Paul Lambert is available.

He has played for big clubs.

I remember around the time we were looking at Kieran.... the other young coach that was getting rave reviews was Anthony Barry. That was 5 years ago and I didn't hear much about him after that.. Thought he must have been a flash in the pan and was probably coaching at National League level now.
Mind you... just googled and he's one of Tuchels coaches for England.

If we're looking to get a similar profile to Kieran... could he be a possibility?

Hmm not great is it, I'd probably be ok with Thomas Frank, but do have concerns.

Actually, I'd prefer Keith Andrews, not that he'd swap.

Lets hope Ashton has a blackbook of decent options we've not thought about.

Does no one consider Frank's lack of success since he left the Brentford ecosystem a concern? Yes, Tottenham but that, and the fact that Keith Andrews appears to have just stepped up and it's like nothing changed, would make me a bit wary.

Presumably Frank had achieved enough at Brondby to make him attractive to Brentford. Was there something about him that made them think that he was the man for their system?

Lee Johnson's Wikipedia page makes the prospect of him quite scary.

Tottenham are a basket case club though. Loads of issues with players that want to move on etc so think he was on a hiding to nothing. If you look at the other managers that have failed there, it says it all.

You could equally say that Brentford was left in a good state by Frank (Of which Andrews was working under) so even more of a selling point for him.

I'd go for Tonda Eckert, he already knows quite a bit about the club after all . . .

There's also Carlos Cuesta at Parma who was Arteta's analyst. Only 30 though so maybe too big a step up

Edit: Parma

And the other ex.Spurs manager, Postecoglou, was going great until he went to Tottenham, might he be good for us. Especially if he could convince Maeda to move south.

Mind you, referencing the being in a room with Ashton and Rosenior post it could be even funnier with Ange and Ashton. Remembering the post match interviews where Ange told Scottish journalists why everything they said was wrong I could see an increasingly worn down Ashton looking even more haggard than he did in that rubbish apology video.

He went to Spurs, who finished 17th the previous season.

He didnt do particularly well, but its not like they dropped from a Top 6 finish.

If McKenna leaves on 01:21 - Apr 16 with 1021 views TownieRob

If McKenna does go this summer (I think he does btw), you would expect Ashton to already have planned for it and I’d imagine they’ll be very similar profiles to what we went for with KMc.

Personally I wouldn’t expect us to go down the obvious route of a 'name' manager or at least someone who has managed in the Prem already e.g Cooper with limited success.

I'd expect a similar model meaning a younger, highly rated coach already working at a top level club. Someone like Justin Cochrane at Spurs or Aaron Danks at Bayern (yes, a big ask I know) High-level coaches used to elite environments and focused on player development, that sounds familiar doesnt it..

*I'd throw Anthony Barry in there as well. Assitant to Tuchel.

Mousinho is a fair shout but I do think the club will be looking at the next one before everyone else does or has already taken a chance one them. That’s basically the model that’s got us here, so I’d be surprised if we moved away from it.

-----

This was when I was still very much unsure we would get promoted. However, the profile of 'new' manager still stands.

Anthony Barry is really interesting.

Issue would be possibly having to wait until the world cup ends which just wouldn't be an option.

Ashton struck gold with McKenna but his appointments at Bristol City weren't overly inspiring. Lee Johnson, Dean Holden, Nigel Pearson.

Worryingly Lee Johnson is looking to return to the UK.

As a mid table League One club, Ashton could afford to gamble with McKenna.

Obviously it paid off in spades, but now there is no way we could appoint a Head Coach who had never managed before.

That is how I see it. I don't think we will be so keen to gamble on an 'up and coming' manager considering the last time out in the Prem.

Is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worth a look?
Has Prem experience with Cardiff and Man Ure.
Well regarded and has good connections across Europe.

Rohl, Mousinho or Rosenior also fairly palatable options for me.

I'd be intrigued by OGS and definitely onboard with it. Rohl would be a great option, especially after his experience at Rangers with all the scrutiny and pressure that brings. I'd be happy with Rosenior as well. Mousinho too much of a gamble? Maybe if we were still in the Champ.

Still chuckling at the suggestion of Amorin, my word. His last job was with one of the biggest club sides in the world.
