The slow and inevitable Americanisation of English football 13:26 - Jun 8 with 1100 viewsnrb1985

reason I don't want it #254687423

Dynamic pricing, get in the bin ffs.

We have been extremely lucky with our US owners compared to the likes of Chelsea and others. But I do worry that this is unfortunately the inevitable direction of travel.

At which point I will be going to Ram Meadow to cheer on Bury. It's not for me. Absolute guff.

Limited capacity (20k roughly), huge and wealthy market in New York, long wait for making the finals, American attitude to pricing being 'if you can't afford tickets, stop being poor'. I think that this is probably the perfect storm for craziness, but does seem the direction of travel ATM in Football. Hopefully any regulator can offer some protection to fans*

I think you’ll find it’s “legacy fans”

This perfectly sums up a conversation I had with Schmoke snr a little while ago.

He buys his season ticket and that basically it, expenditure wise, from him directly at ITFC each season.

He doesn't go into the club shop before each match and buy something, he doesn't get food/drink in the concourse, etc

I was telling him that "Clubs that sellout their games don't really want your sort attending anymore, you're a waste of a potential customer and, the longer we remain in PL, the less wanted you really are at PR from a business perspective. A day tripper is a much better fan/customer then you are".

Maybe I'm being to cynical though.

No I think your point is correct - we are institutional US owners’ worst nightmare!

The thing they misunderstand completely is that the atmosphere “real” fans create in the stadium is part of what makes the PL and English football so brilliant. Without that I don’t think the “product” is half as good.

That and the jeapordy created by promotion and relegation.

100% agree, although I'm not sure what the day tripper market would be like for us.

If ITFC removed season tickets, would the demand still be enough to fill the stadium at increased prices?

Have no doubt - as soon as we’re an established PL club, we’ll be exactly the same as the rest.

True. And the daft thing is, FFP gives them the perfect excuse to pass all costs onto fans.

"Oh we would love to put our hands in our own pockets, but our hands are tied by FFP".

Don't do it.
Their stadium bowl has nowhere near enough safe-standing, WAG-friendly media seats.
Total outrage.
