Money laundering 20:25 - Jun 8 with 3138 viewsLeaky

Just had 2 guys of middle eastern appearance walk into our local pub, asked for 4 bottles of wine, when told it £11 a bottle they asked for 3 more, bar lady said that will £77 they paid in £10 notes bar lady put the cash in the till gave them a receipt. Guy said it was to expensive and wanted his money back. After a bit of arguing bar staff gave them their money back however they wanted £20 pound notes when told the only cash she had was what they had giver her. Again more arguing, by this time pub was filling up with builders for an after work beer. they took one look and left, with out realising they were on cctv.

That’s not money laundering. More likely passing forgeries.

11 quid for a bottle of wine? And people say pubs are too expensive.

That’s not money laundering, *if* it happened it’s more likely about passing fake notes.

I say *if* as not sure where you can pay £11 for a bottle of wine in a pub these days.

7 bottles of wine from a pub, sounds dodgy to me.

Money laundering only occurs in Turkish barbers - apparently

I once knew a gentleman who lived in Ipswich but born in south east london.
He said in the days when the working class was paid wages in cash he and friends would regularly go 'up town' (he meant the west end of London) with pretend brown wage packets containing forged £10s. Head into shops, pull one of these forged £10 notes from said pretend wage packet and buy something for only a few pence. Shop assistants would moan and say, do you have anything smaller, sorry no he would say, just been paid. Knowing full well the shop assistant wouldn't check the notes assuming they were ok as they had been taken from a wage packet. Off they would go out of the shop with their £9+ in real money from the change. Apparently WH Smith was their preferred target

Obviously he eventually got caught and spent a few months behind bars, but he always smiled and said it could have been worse the police could have discovered who was actually forging them.

£11 a bottle, so around £3.70ish for a large glass of it.

When did this fictitious crime happen - 1998?

I took it to be a warning to the local area but might be wrong.

When I worked at Travelex we frequently had descriptions sent around of people trying to pull palming scams.

Unless them Ten's were counterfeit. Not technically laundering, but still walking away with clean money in their pockets.

Because Leaky lives in Sharm El Sheikh where you can still buy a bottle of wine on a night out for £11

What an absolute c***.

I was in a Thai restaurant near Durham recently. We were the last table in and the owner came over and asked if we had taken any photos because the couple in the corner had paid with two fake twenties.

The owner and staff member were absolutely distraught. They work their asses off in an incredibly difficult financial environment to have people do that to them.

They try and contribute to the life of their community, and this has destroyed their trust.

Shtty behaviour.

You have a bit of victim complex tonight don't you, how much do you think a white Bwitish gardener should charge old White Bwitish service widows to be able to pay his struggling plumber?
