I think it's more a case of everyone standing back until the Parliamentary investigation has run its due course and the current MP convicted so that a proper by-election can be convened. Then a fair representation of the people can happen.

| Greens confirmed not to contest Clacton. on 08:16 - Jul 8 with 2326 views | ITFC_Essex | Binface aside, it would be decent if a local independent who just wants to represent their area in Parliament would stand up to him and his lack of work as being an MP. A two horse race between a man who's caused a stunt and a strong local candidate could result in Farage looking foolish when he loses. At the moment he'll win with just mostly his hardcore vote turning out to back him. | |

Whoever this bloke is, he’s absolutely hilarious. Hope he at least keeps his deposit. Absolutely brilliant.

Reform preyed on one of the most deprived areas in the country to get a "banker" seat in parliament for Farage, and from all accounts there's been no significant improvement to the area over the past 2 years, and quite a few locals disgruntled at how little time Farage spends in the constituency. There must also be a few voters in the area reconsidering whether to support someone who gets £5m handouts from friends when they're struggling to make ends meet themselves. Less than 60% turnout at the last GE, and Reform had less than 50% vote share of that - you'd hope such a high profile by-election should get a few more locals off their bums to vote, but sadly I'd expect many supporters of mainstream parties to no-vote rather than protest vote (which would be a shame)

I'm thinking more about how it would be perceived in the rest of the World.

Not sure that that particularly matters, but wouldn't any decent foreign journo explain the context to their audience in any case?

If there's a second by-election, I wonder if Nige may pay a price with the electorate for wasting everyone's time? Don't some people tend to get the hump with too many trips to the ballet box?

I have my doubts he'll even stand. He'll win this one, obviously, say the people have spoken/the other parties scared to face me because they know the people of Clacton would vote for him in a landslide. He can then say its undemocratic to force him to have another one when his constituents have spoken and the other parties ran scared. "I've had enough of being blocked by the establishment and I want my life back, my family are in danger bla bla bla"
| Greens confirmed not to contest Clacton. on 09:31 - Jul 8 with 1999 views | Guthrum | What we really need is a turnout in proportion to the time Farage has spent actively representing Clacton since his election. | |

They did vote for what was obviously going to be something of a circus. I'd suggest a campaign to spoil ballot papers, see if that can get bigger numbers than Farage.

I believe it is illegal to encourage or campaign for voters to deface their ballot papers

Ah, that's a shame. Low turnout it is, then.

| Greens confirmed not to contest Clacton. on 10:05 - Jul 8 with 1841 views | baxterbasics | You'd think the centre-left for once might be able to unite around one candidate - Nige "only" got 48% last time round. So could be beaten. Binface wont do it, nor will the likely slew of local nobodies that will give it a shot as independents. | |
