Lots of her colleagues using it for political capital at the moment. Principally mourners in chief Farage and Zia Yusuf.

The country is so divided. It feels like we become more like America every day. There are quite clearly two radically different visions for the country and neither side is going to accept the other side's vision. Then we have those in the middle mocked and politicians doomed to failure as they try and play both sides.

Farage needs the country divided to have any chance of success. Widdicombe’s family have again asked for no further comment and speculation but are again being ignored by Farage and his band of ghouls.

I never aligned with her views politically but nobody deserves to be on the receiving end of such a brutal and horrific crime as that. Anyone who thinks her beliefs make it in any way acceptable is a very sick individual.

and 80% of people are in the middle. 10% loons on either wing shouting very loudly.

Urgh. Just bumped into a post on Facebook with some utterly vile comments by far left and far right idiots. Far leftists gloating over her death, far rightists dehumanizing people who have gender dysphoria or choose to live as a trans person. Abusing each other for their views, totally oblivious to the irony that this senseless, brutal murder should teach us all that opinions are one thing, but common, human decency is quite another, and the day we can't separate our opinions from being a decent human being even if the person opposite has an opposing view, is the day we are going down an awful, awful path.

It's not that hard...if you're continually* telling people they're arsehole scum commies / centrists / fascists, then maybe you're part of the problem. We've forgotten how to disagree with grace and the acceptance that we might just be wrong. * the odd outburst is understandable.

I don't claim to know why court processes are long and drawn out,.but I agree. If there is video footage of the crime, why on earth is the trial set for a year's time? [Post edited 21 Jul 23:27]

"the acceptance that we might just be wrong". This, 1 million times over. Maybe, just maybe, we are not right. We are not the world-leading expert, and maybe we can learn by listening to opposing opinions and keeping an open mind. Sorry to blow any tiny little mind out there with my radical thinking. I'm in an interesting position. From a religious point of view, I believe that biological sex is finite and indisputable. However, I have a family member who is trans, and I completely empathize with the difficult emotional journey they have been on. It is completely possible to have an opinion on something but still have empathy for a person who takes an opposite stance. Opinion<kindness

This is very well put and exactly what I think. People deserve personal support to live their lives exactly how they want to. At the same time we can still hold the view you expressed without extremists accusing us of being phobic or whatever other epithets they throw

It’s very interesting that you think something should or could be “gained” by discourse and conversation. It’s almost as if you see TWTD as a competition you’re trying to win and imagine others also do so.
