Why is there such a need to find a player in the squad to target and give a.hard.time.to

Interesting interview with him, I like being as close to the goal as possible, not what we were being led to believe last season when the no 10 was his favoured position.

Always looked an out and out striker to me and we should have played him there more last season when we needed someone to put chances away

The only Muff in Town.

Seems there always has to be for some. Everyone is supposed to be world class and immediately, don't you know. I've always said if it appears to someone that a player isn't meeting their " expectations ", blame it on the recruitment process that bought him here, not the player himself. It was Kasey last season ( I bet more than a few are fuming he's still here :) ), it was always going to be someone else this season.

He’s a striker/finisher-off-er and always has been. I can’t understand how KM didn’t use him in that role. Of all people KM would have known his strengths. I can only assume he was asked to suck it up for the team and try to be a ball playing 10 as he was the best option we had (pre-Mahmeti). Which he was obviously not suited to. I don’t actually know why we signed him unless someone in tne recruitment process just got excited by his golden boot season with no thought of how he’d fit in. We wasted him for a year.

KM loved to try shoehorning players into roles they were not suited to - Szmodics is another example that was wasted by us.

Why sign players then play them in alien roles?

Look at him bang in the goals for Derby now

Him and SS what a waste of potential goals.

Not sure SS suited our style but maybe we signed so a rival couldn't?

Just as Akpom gets a lot of unfair criticism, you have made a comment about KMK that suggests he wasn't perfect. Haven't you realised that amongst many on here our former manager is beyond criticsm, untouchable?

Sadly both instances are all to familiar - our greatest are fallible and with weaknesses, and our scapegoats have strengths that many choose not to see.

To be fair, Hirst was absolute shit for 2 seasons and deserved most of the blowback from the fans. Akpom hasn't pulled up any trees either, but has a chance to turn things around. If a player is majorly under performing, like Hirst was, the fans have every right to give him stick.

There is no 'Need' just a simple case that every club in every season had weaklinks.

Until he comes on and performs to a prem standard he will get discussed. Similar to those who discussed Greaves the other day and some about Oshea as a RB.

That’ll be the Derby in 16th place and who have won one game in four and stank Pride Park out last Saturday.

Well, he was sub for Delap two seasons ago playing for a team with no midfield. What exactly did you expect of him, given he’s not the same type of CF that Delap is?

Last season I thought he was out of form for a big chunk of it. But he was playing for a new team and still scored 11 at a rate of about 1 in 4. Some of them crucial goals too. You never know, he might have even recovered his form and confidence quicker without the crowd’s ridicule when he was substituted and social media abuse off it.

The fans have the right to give anyone stick if they wish to but those knuckle draggers might wish to ask themselves who that benefits? The answer is that it benefits them because it makes them feel they are doing something, edge-lordy. Nobody else.

The OP is about the desire for some to pick on a player. Top of the hate parade is Akpom at the moment. Is he the best no 9 I’ve ever seen? No. But abusing the bloke is hardly going to help him or the team. It serves no purpose, but that won’t stop the rage brigade.

Your last para is particularly spot on. Beggars belief that some think the way for any player, let alone a striker, to regain confidence and form is to abuse and boo them. Brainless idiots - and that's me being polite.

Perhaps Town fans should sing to the tune of "Cuba" for Chuba by the Gibson Brothers.

Many Town fans have always required a scapegoat.

Its like those who demand perfection in a footballer, but have never been perfect themselves. Individuals with shallow lives.

Fans need a scapegoat and it's always been ever thus. Take Cole Skuse - did a job, never complained (that I noticed) but got dogs abuse from the fans. Then same fans bemoan a player who leaves as it "shows a lack of loyalty".

One thing I think the club could do a better job at, is better explaining a players strengths and highlighting the contribution that might not always be obvious. That would be more helpful than Mick McCarthy's bloody minded "I'm telling the fans I'm picking him because I won't do what the fans say".

SS was a decent signing for us in the PL because he could press and was good on the break. He simply could not be used in the way Blackburn and Derby have in the Champ because teams sat back against us.

Can't blame SS when the team he plays in is shit

If your logic stands then why bother signing Florentino and Flemming because Burnley stank the entire PL out last season?

Fair enough.

That is why I'd rather have him in the team now rather than Akpom. Look at SS' goals against Man City, Brentford, Spurs he knows how to be in the right place at the right time plus he is a much better finisher than Akpom

Not sure why Ashton wants to bin him, seems like another Norwood
