It was Barcelona, Rob Chandler mentioned it a little while before the teams came out.

Really? Whilst tragic it seems like quite a remote event to warrant black arm bands at a football game in f Suffolk. I wonder if there is an official criterium for deciding if black arm bands should be worn.

I totally agree. It's like the whole poppy argument (which FIFA are entirely correct on, by the way) Black arm bands really should be reserved for specific events affecting the club, or town or football.

Criterion.

In this case criterium is correct.

A bike race is used to decide when and for what reason black armbands are used, there was a photo finish settled by Hawk-Eye this week. Although there was some controversy about the alignment of the finishing line with respect to the finishing post.

I thought I heard someone say there was a connection with Barcelona (not necessarily the football team), possibly on the Brentford side. I may have that wrong/misheard.

From what I gather Brentford fans are increasingly convinced they ARE Barcelona.

Yeah, really. Why not Virginia for instance? Did that happen on the wrong continent? Was it the wong type of terrorist? Not enough people killed?

There are tragic events happening all the time all over the world and we don't have black arm bands commemorating them all. To me it only make sense if there is some connection to the local area or one of the clubs involved.

The danger of using criteria that is to broad, is that the impact of the symbol will be lost.

To be honest I don't have a clue whether criterion or criterium is correct here. Happy to let you and facters debate it through. In the meantime I will use criterioumn and blame predictive text.
