This is a grovelling apology to Benters:

I have been on here a few times saying that his liking for Ghost Ship is ridiculous and that it is a real weakness in the mostly fine range of beers brewed in Southwold.

A few weeks ago I had a pint of this in Slovenia - honestly - and really enjoyed it. I then had another pint in the interests of scientific research just to check my previous findings, which were confirmed. I wasn't sure that two scientific experiments were enough so I then.....

Not local, a mate lives near there they might do. That stuffs ok as well. I really like the ease up IPA tbh

I have never come across this usage. It has always been used when the person concerned has stated their belief sincerely but subsequently acknowledged that they were wrong. Having written this I am coming more and more to think that you are right.

As it was originally used at confession by Catholics this perhaps backs your statement rather than refutes it!

I speak as a major Latin scholar. I failed Latin O Level not just once, but twice. Yes, that much of a scholar.

Ah, well as somebody who passed Latin O level at the first attempt, but wouldn't do it to A level, or do the extra cramming to get through Oxbridge entrance for a History degree (for which competency in Latin was mandatory), I clearly have the upper hand.

And our school song was in Latin.
