A few weeks ago I had a pint of this in Slovenia - honestly - and really enjoyed it. I then had another pint in the interests of scientific research just to check my previous findings, which were confirmed. I wasn't sure that two scientific experiments were enough so I then.....

You missed a previous thread on here? Sorry, don't believe you! The previous acknowledgement of error was by a frequent poster from the Forth-Clyde axis of central Scotland.

Ah, so wrongly used then I image. Mea culpa is actually acknowledging you did something knowing it already to be wrong.

I have never come across this usage. It has always been used when the person concerned has stated their belief sincerely but subsequently acknowledged that they were wrong. Having written this I am coming more and more to think that you are right. As it was originally used at confession by Catholics this perhaps backs your statement rather than refutes it! I speak as a major Latin scholar. I failed Latin O Level not just once, but twice. Yes, that much of a scholar.

Ah, well as somebody who passed Latin O level at the first attempt, but wouldn't do it to A level, or do the extra cramming to get through Oxbridge entrance for a History degree (for which competency in Latin was mandatory), I clearly have the upper hand. And our school song was in Latin.
